Our Introduction

In addition to the spectacle that takes place on the pitch when two teams face off in a match seeking victory that will take them to the top of the championship, there is another protagonist that makes the party much more special: the stadium where the match is being played!

Increasingly modern and designed for the comfort and convenience of athletes and visitors, stadiums around the world are becoming true works of art with impressive designs and structures, making fans from all over the world feel excited from the moment they set foot there, whether to watch a match, a show or simply to visit the venue.

The Olympic Stadium, the main stadium in the Italian capital and home to the teams A.S. Roma and Lazio will be our highlights this time!

1) Olympic Stadium: Rome’s Main Soccer Stadium! MEET OUR STAR!

The Olympic Stadium, located in Rome, Lazio region, was first inaugurated in 1932. A partial inauguration was resumed in 1937, but unfortunately had to be interrupted in 1940 due to the Second World War.

In 1950, renovation work on the stadium resumed and on May 17, 1950, it was reopened with the match between Italy and Hungary. The final score was not the most pleasant for the Italian team, 3-0 for the Hungarian team! Sad? Yes, but losing is part of the game!

In 1990, the Olympic Stadium was completely restructured. In fact, it was practically rebuilt, as they demolished a large part of the building and rebuilt it entirely in reinforced concrete, installed a fiberglass roof and made several other changes, all to host the biggest football championship on the planet: the World Cup!

The structure we see today was completed in 2008, due to UEFA’s demands, aiming at the possibility of holding the Champions League final at the stadium. This really happened, as on May 27, 2009, the match between Barcelona and Manchester United took place, with the Catalan team winning 2-0.

Improvements in the security area, renewing the screens with high-resolution screens, and replacing the seats were some of the changes made at that time!

2) Olympic Stadium: Rome’s Main Soccer Stadium! LESS IS MORE!

Many people love the experience of going to watch a classic soccer match, with a packed stadium, and experiencing the explosion of energy that occurs when they hear the scream of a goal coming from the throats of thousands of fans at the same time. A truly surreal moment!

But did you know that the Olympic Stadium has reduced its capacity over the years?

When the stadium hosted the Olympic Games in 1960, its capacity was 100,000 spectators. In 1990, after the restructuring, the maximum number of people was reduced to 82,922 and the stadium can currently hold 68,530 people. This number makes the stadium the second largest stadium in Italy, behind only the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, the famous San Siro in Milan, which currently has a capacity of 75,817 seats.

The more modern and comfortable structure for everyone, athletes and fans, is one of the reasons why this change in the number of occupants occurred over time, so in this case, less is more, fewer seats more comfort! Read also: Let’s visit the San Siro Stadium in Milan?

All the big stadiums in the world are divided into sectors, each one in its own way. Stands divided by colors, rows, chairs, boxes, North/South/East/West areas, the management of the place decides how it will be! At the Olympic Stadium, there are two areas that are the stage for spectacular fan choreography: the Curva Sud and the Curva Nord (literally translated as the South and North Curves). Roma fans usually go to the South side and Lazio fans to the North.

On days when the two teams play a derby, the fans prepare performances with fabrics, signs and flags that form incredible designs, true masterpieces. After all, we mustn’t forget that we are in Italy, a country that breathes art!
