Our Introduction

With its almost 22,000 inhabitants, Termas de Monsummano is one of the most charming towns on the Italian spa circuit. The history of the city tells that, in Etruscan-Roman times, travelers were looking for a place to rest, and this piece of paradise on Earth was one of those chosen by them. A 3rd century B.C. bronze statue of Hercules, discovered in 1887, proves that in ancient times the city was considered sacred land. Read also: Wine Route in Tuscany!

4) The Baths of Monsummano in Tuscany -VISIT THE GROTTA GIUSTI THERMAL BATHS

Let’s talk about the Hot springs. In Monsummano, there are caves with natural hot waters, today flanked by modern establishments with all the structure for visitors. The waters have healing properties for different pathologies and are also great for skin treatments. The venues offer massages, therapies, massages, and more.

A little more about Grotta Giusti

The Grotta Giusti is worth mentioning, where it is also possible to practice diving. The site was discovered in 1849 and is formed by the communication of natural cavities through which a torrent of saline-sulfate-alkaline-earthy waters crosses. This paradise reaches 200 meters below the ground and is divided into three areas called Paradise, Purgatory and Hell; the lower it is, the warmer the water, hence the name.

The water temperature varies between 28°C and 34°C and the environments are rich in stalactites and stalagmites and underground labyrinths with spacious caves for total well-being. The wide natural vaults in the rock are ideal for stopping for a natural steam bath. At the bottom of the cave is the Limbo, which is a beautiful crystalline mirror of warm waters, with a constant temperature of 36°C, both in summer and winter. By the way, an excellent place to stay is at the Hotel Grotta Giusti Spa, above the cave. There is an incredible park and the hotel structure is excellent! (does not work in February).

7) The Baths of Monsummano in Tuscany -VISIT VILLA MONTEVETTOLINI

Near the Grotta Giusti is Montevettolini, a 12th-century village, also fortified, where you can see the Palazzo Comunale and the Pieve di San Michele. Here is the Villa Medici, built by Grand Duke Ferdinand I between the end of the sixteenth century and the first twenty years of the seventeenth century. In Le Case is the Medicean Farm, also called the Big House, in the past part of the possessions of the Villa and is now owned by the Borghese family, where various ceremonies such as baptisms and weddings are held.
