The Rocca of Riva del Garda

The Rocca was built as a defensive fortress to protect the town against invasions. It is dominated by a large carved wooden door, flanked by Corinthian columns and decorated with niches housing statues of saints. Inviolata Church

The Church of Inviolata was built between 1603 and 1636 and was commissioned by the Capuchin friars, and its construction was sponsored by the noble Madruzzo family, one of the most influential in the region at the time. The church was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and quickly became an important pilgrimage site due to its association with miracles and Marian devotion.

The Interior of the Church

The true splendor of the Church of Inviolata is revealed in its interior. The octagonal interior space is decorated with a wealth of detail typical of the Baroque style. Vibrant frescoes adorn the ceiling and walls, depicting scenes from the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary, as well as figures of saints. These frescoes were created by renowned artists of the time, including Pietro Ricchi, also known as “Il Lucchese”.

The side altars are equally impressive, made of marble and decorated with elaborate sculptures and paintings. The main altar is particularly notable, with its central image of the Virgin Mary framed by marble columns and gilded adornments. This altar is a focal point for devotees who come to pray and contemplate.

In addition to the frescoes, the Inviolata Church houses several other valuable works of art. Among them is a famous painting of St. Francis of Assisi, known for its expressiveness and detail. How to Get to Riva del Garda from Verona?

Riva del Garda is easily accessible from Verona, making it an ideal destination for a day trip. From Verona, you can take a train to Rovereto, which takes about an hour. From Rovereto, there are regular buses that take you directly to Riva del Garda in about 45 minutes. Alternatively, if you prefer to drive, the journey by car takes about 1h30min, following the A22 towards Trento, taking the Rovereto Sud exit and following the signs for Riva del Garda.
