Our Introduction

As it is one of the most famous places in Italy when it comes to winter, snow and cold, we often think that Cortina D’Ampezzo is a place that only allows us to ski, play in the snow and that there are not many attractions beyond that to have fun with the little ones, but no!

Since almost all children usually have energy to spare, how about organizing an outing with the little ones that involves hiking amidst beautiful landscapes, or even skating on a really cool rink and learning about the First World War? All of this is prepared and designed so that children and adults can have fun and live wonderful moments together

Cortina D’Ampezzo has structures designed precisely for those who want to do something more profound and complete in the middle of nature, taking the children and thus creating memories that time will certainly not erase! Read also: Where to stay in the cities of the Dolomites?

Attention!!

  • Be aware of the opening hours of parks, museums and other attractions! Before your visit, check the official opening and closing times on the website, as some places change their opening hours according to the seasons (especially those with outdoor attractions)!

1) What to do with children in Cortina D’Ampezzo? EXCURSIONS AND TOURS DIRECTLY FROM CORTINA!

Don’t want to risk a long walk or worry about taking a car to go further? Well, you can reach beautiful places and go on excursions from Cortina D’Ampezzo itself on foot. These are walks that won’t require much physical effort or time, but will provide you with beautiful landscapes and adventure for the kids! Read also: What to see in Cortina d’Ampezzo?

Lago di Pianozes

Through the center of Cortina towards Campo di Sopra and then Campo di Sotto, there you will find a very beautiful lake with crystal clear water, not very large but surrounded by pine trees that together form a beautiful landscape. There, you will find the Chalet Lago di Pianozes, which is an excellent resting place to recharge your batteries while the children have fun. The walk from Cortina to the lake is approximately 50 minutes and is considered an easy route.

Lake Ghedina

How about seeing an incredible panoramic view from an altitude of 1,457m? In this case, you will need to take the Freccia nel Cielo cable car that leaves directly from the center of Cortina and you will soon be at Col Drusciè, which offers a panoramic view of the entire Valle del Boite, which is made up of five small villages: San Vito, Borca, Vodo, Valle and Cibiana di Cadore.

From here, you and the children can continue the walk through a forest that looks like a fairy tale and that will take you to Lake Ghedina, which, like Lake di Pianozes, is surrounded by pine trees. If you want to end the tour here, that’s fine! But you can also take a walk of about 50 minutes to Rifugio Tondi and be even more amazed by the landscape surrounded by mountains at an altitude of about 2,327m. You won’t regret it!

Rifugio Tondi and Rifugio Faloria

Another very interesting and beautiful hike! First, you will take the cable car that will take you directly to Rifugio Faloria, which will allow you to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Valle del Boite. If you and your children want to stay there, that is fine, but you will not have made any effort and you will not have spent a single ounce of energy.

Since the idea is to have fun and get your children moving and discovering new places, I recommend following the path indicated on site to Rifugio Tondi, as it is a place where you will feel like you are on another planet, a beautiful place that you will be able to enjoy with a walk of approximately 1 hour. For older children, this is a very interesting tour that will teach them a lot about the not-so-distant past, but which left a profound mark on the world: the First World War. The museum is located in 5 Torri, one of the symbols of the region, and is about 15 km from Cortina D’Ampezzo.

To get to the museum, you will need to take the cable car to 5 Torri, which leaves from Bai de Dones, or if you prefer, you can take a walk and enjoy the incredible scenery. In this case, the starting point is Baita Bai de Dones, a very pleasant restaurant and bar at the foot of the mountain. In about 1h30, you will arrive at the museum.

This is an open-air museum, and children will be able to see artifacts, materials, shelters and even walk through the trenches made by soldiers who passed through there between 1915 and 1917. The entire route has explanatory posters about the period and the sadly significant impact on the life of that place and that mountain. It will certainly be an incredible history lesson that will enrich everyone’s knowledge, not just the children’s! Read also: Tourism in Italy with children!
