KNOW YOUR STORY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The history of the fountain is parallel to the construction of the aqueduct Aqua Virgo (from the era of Emperor Augustus), <strong>when in 19 B.C. general Agripa, son-in-law of Emperor Augustus, ordered running water to the Pantheon and its thermal baths.<\/strong> This gallery was built with the aim of creating free spas for Roman citizens, dedicated to God Neptune. The central pipeline still circulates underground today and the Fontana di Trevi is a witness to this, marking the end of the aqueduct. Being thirsty, they were guided to the source by a girl (a virgin, of course) &#8211; perhaps it was the goddess Diana, Apollo&#8217;s sister, who loved to bathe in the fountains with her nymphs after exhausting hunts. The name may also have been simply an association with calm and pure waters, free of limestone. In 1625, Pope Urban VIII commissioned Bernini to demolish the old facade and start a new fountain, this time more grandiose.<\/strong> After four years, with the Pope&#8217;s death, the work was suspended. Ninety years later, it was Pope Clement XII, in 1730, who announced a competition for the realization of the fountain. The winner was a stranger named Nicola Salvi &#8211; they say he made his work of art by stealing Bernini&#8217;s first project. The works lasted thirty years and were completed in 1762, under the papacy of Clement XIII. Giuseppe Pannini laid the last stone.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>3) Visiting the Trevi Fountain? GET TO KNOW THE FOUNTAIN DETAILS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The facade of the Trevi Fountain is based on three architectural elements:<\/strong> the front is made of travertine marble, the statues are made of Carrara marble and the fountain is also made of travertine. The dominant theme of all sculptures from the source is the marine world. The great statue of Oceanus, the god Neptune, was sculpted by Pietro Bracci. Of equal beauty and elegance is the shell-shaped carriage, pulled by some seahorses, which in turn are handled by Tritons. Such mythological characters give movement and dynamism to the composition. MORE DETAIS <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Right in the center of the monumental complex, in front of the palace, is the statue of Oceanus, <strong>represented in a shell-shaped carriage hoisted by winged horses.<\/strong> There are also, among other sculptures, the figures of Tritons and marine animals, mythological and real. The sculptures that make up this wonderful fountain narrate a sequence of events linked to the discovery of the same source, from where the water that feeds the fountain comes from. The four allegorical statues located at the top of the mansard represent the benefits of rain in relation to the fertility of the land and the four largest productions that depend on the availability of water, are:<\/p>\n<p>1. The first statue on the left carries a basket of fruit, <strong>which expresses Abundance.<\/strong><br \/>\n2. The second holds corn cobs in the hands, <strong>representing Soil Fertility.<\/strong><br \/>\n3. The third has a bowl and grapes, <strong>symbols of the Autumn Harvest.<\/strong><br \/>\n4. The last one represents the <strong>Joy of Meadows and Gardens and is all decorated in flowers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>5 ) Visiting the Trevi Fountain?
