1) Where to see snow near the main Italian cities? ROME

Rome is one of the cities with less snow, the last snow that fell there was in 2015 and even then, nothing surprising! When it snows in Rome it is an event, but after a few minutes the Romans are already complaining! However, close to the city, there are some excellent places for those who want to “play Elsa” and sing “Let It Go” without mercy! (lol) The most famous place is Livata Hill.

Public transport in Rome

Getting to Livata Hill by public transport is not difficult, but remember that ski slopes tend to close an hour before sunset, and in the winter the sun sets before 5 pm so consider sleeping in the local. If you just want to make a roundtrip, start your day early! To get there, go to the Mamolo Bridge subway station, take the bus from Cotral company, ROMA-SUBIACO, arriving in Subiaco, take another bus to Livata. The journey takes about an hour. You can buy return tickets, at the subway station in Rome.

2) Where to see snow near the main Italian cities? NAPLES

Naples, another city that hardly ever sees snow, and when it does, it comes in homeopathic doses! The most popular place to ski near Naples is Laceno! The only problem is getting there: there is no public transport and the roads are very steep! I advise against taking the car if you have no experience on roads in these conditions, not to mention the snow! A great option is to hire a private driver. You can get there via Napoli – Bari and take the exit at Avellino Ovest, then continue on the SS 368.

3) Where to see snow near the main Italian cities? MILAN

In Milan, in spite of being a little colder in winter, the amount of snow is also not so significant, however, near there, it is possible to find fantastic places to ski, even with “baby pistes”, suitable for beginners; if you are already an expert, don’t worry: there are also many options!

Ski Resorts

One of the most prestigious and well-known ski resorts is Piani di Bobbio. The station is in the province of Lecco, in a region called Valassina, bordering Bergamo and it is incredible! The tour is worth it even for those who do not want to ski, just do something different during your stay in Milan. The skipass (ticket that gives you access to the slopes) is purchased right there and it is valid for the whole day, it is the most worthwhile and already includes the transfer with the cable car that serves to go from one piste to another. Departing from Milan take the train at ‘Stazione Centrale di Milano’ and go to Lecco station; from there, take a local bus to Barzio and ask to get off at ‘impianto sciistico di Bobbio’.
