1) How is accessibility in Venice for disabled people? IN THE AIRPORT

Venice is formed by 121 islands interconnected by 435 bridges and, thanks to a very effective public transport policy and the changes made over the years by the municipal administration, Venice has almost 70% of the city’s historic surface accessible to people with disabilities. The excellent accessibility is already shown at Marco Polo Airport, which is, more or less, twenty kilometers from the Historic Center of Venice. Airport Bus

To get there you can use line 5 of the ACTV bus, which has wheelchair accessibility. At the airport there is an entire structure for the disabled and it is possible to get on or off using the specially equipped lift for wheelchairs. Another important convenience is the assistance offered to passengers with disabilities. To have an even more exquisite service, inform your conditions at the time of booking the ticket so that, when you arrive, the team responsible for assistance is already ready.

2) How is accessibility in Venice for disabled people? ON THE TRAIN

If you are thinking of using the train, do not worry: since 2011 the Italian railway network has among its tasks a commitment to guarantee the accessibility of the stations to all citizens who depart, transit and arrive, with special attention to people with disabilities or people with reduced mobility. They provide the appropriate assistance services at the station and specific information for passengers, even offering a special map for the disabled to be able to get to know Venice in a comfortable and safe way.

Service Points

The service points are located in more than 270 stations managed by 14 blue rooms, reception and organization points, open every day, from 6:45 am to 9:30 pm. There you will find: reception at the station, accompaniment on board the departure train or the arrival train at the exit or entry at the station, guidance in case it is necessary to change trains to travel to another point in Italy, loan of the wheelchair to use it inside the station, up and down the train by forklift for wheelchair users, etc.

Blue Room

The so-called Blue Room (or the railway company’s contact channel) proposes ‘meetings’ every 30 minutes or upon request. It is a free service and it works very well! For those who are driving, it is possible to park in Piazzale Roma, in the municipal garage. For those who wish to leave their car on Tronchetto Island, you can park at Interparking Italia, which has about 3,500 covered parking spaces. From here take the ACTV water transport line 2 or line 6. In the parking lots you will find a lift and special spaces.
