The city was one of the most important centers of the Renaissance in Italy, frequented by famous artists, writers, and scientists.\u00a0Old Ferrara is today divided<\/strong> between the Renaissance area<\/strong> and the medieval city<\/strong>, both splendid and perfect for exploring both on foot and by bike. Over the centuries, the Estense Castle played several roles:<\/strong> it was the headquarters of the Eastern army, with stables, arsenals, warehouses, workshops, and everything else that was necessary for the small army that was housed there, and then it was transformed into a noble residence where the court life of the powerful Estense family lived.
