In April 2024, Venice introduced a new rule for visitors: an entrance fee will be required for each person who intends to cross its borders on specific days. And in 2025, the charge will continue; the main reason for the decision is due to the huge number of tourists present in the city. This measure, approved by the lagoon municipality, generated a sea of ​​discussions and controversies, but it has now become a reality. 1) Do I need to pay to enter Venice? – Rules and Conditions

Let’s talk about the dates where you will have to pay to enter, conditions, exemptions and much more!

Critical Dates:

The days in 2024 when you will have to pay the entrance fee are:

• April: 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30.
• May: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31.
• June: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29.
• July: 4, 5, 6, 11, 12,13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27.

Timetable and Conditions:

Tourists visiting Venice on these days, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., but who are not staying in the city, will have to pay the entrance fee to enter the city. If you buy the entrance ticket up to 4 days in advance of the chosen date of your visit, the price will be 5.00 euros for the day indicated, but if you leave it to buy later the price will increase to 10.00 euros. Exemptions:

Children under 14 years of age have free entry upon presentation of proof of age. Furthermore, those who arrive after 4 pm, perhaps to spend the night in the city, do not have to pay the fee.

Attention!
Even if you stay in Venice and do not have to pay the tax, you will still need to declare your stay to the authorities through the website that we will inform you about below!

Payment and Booking:

To pay, simply go to the dedicated portal of the Municipality of Venice, select the desired date, and enter your contact details (email or phone). Payments can be made by credit card or PayPal. The reservation can be cancelled up to the day before the chosen date and whoever is staying there, although they don’t need to pay the fee, will also need to register on this website!

Exempt categories:

Residents in the metropolitan city of Venice and in general in the Veneto region are exempt from the contribution. Other exempted categories include those who work or study in Venice, those who are guests in accommodation facilities in the municipality, those who participate in sporting events or school trips, and those who belong to the police. 2) Do I need to pay to enter Venice? – How to Buy the Ticket

To get your entrance ticket to Venice, you need to follow a few simple procedures. Here’s how it works:

Online Portal:

The multi-channel and multi-language portal of the Municipality of Venice is now online. You can access it here! Here you will be able to get your QR code, which you will have to show in case of checks. This code will attest to the payment of the contribution or your exclusion/exemption condition. Remember to keep it at all times.

Registration:

Even if you are part of the exempt categories, you will need to register on the Cda.ve.it portal. Once registered, you will receive your personalized QR code.

Payment and Booking:

You can pay by credit card or PayPal. Also, if you’re traveling as a family or with a small group, you can make a bulk reservation.

Controls:

The staff in charge of the controls will be identifiable by a vest or an identification card.

3) Do I need to pay to enter Venice? – Where it is unnecessary

You will need an entrance ticket to access the city of Venice and the main islands of the lagoon, as explained in this post. However, there are some important exceptions:

Ticket Not Required

The ticket is not necessary to transit through: Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto, or the Maritime Station without passing through the ancient city. In addition, it is not needed for the smaller islands, including Lido di Venezia, Pellestrina, Murano, Burano, Torcello, Sant’Erasmo, Mazzorbo, Mazzorbetto, Vignole, S. Validity of the Contribution:

On days when an entrance fee is required, your reservation or payment remains valid for the entire day. You will then be able to enter and exit the areas where you require the ticket at your convenience, presenting it if requested for inspection.
