There are many products offered by the territory, products that reflect the ancient maritime traditions of the Republic of Venice, with their traffic with the Middle East that enriched them and greatly varied the cookbook. The merchant ships of Serenissima (Venice) brought salt, pepper, ginger, and saffron from distant China to the city, spices that can stimulate the fantasy of local chefs and that have built a unique culinary art of its kind. Around these fixed points of Veneto gastronomy, there are so many other local products, appreciated and very diffuse. Firstly, salamis, cheeses, and all products derived from milk are mentioned, but in particular, among the products of the garden, there is the excellent chicory that is the basis of the renowned recipes, such as risotto with Trevigian chicory, chicory baked in the oven, and fried chicory.

The pasta really typical of this region is represented by ‘bigoli’, which look like thick spaghetti made using a hand-operated press. The surface is particularly rough and conducive to holding sauces and condiments.

Other Typical Dishes

Among the sweets most connected to tradition, in addition to the “torta sabbiosa” (savory pie), mention should be made of the ‘zaletti Allan Venetian’, an original and simple recipe based on warm water, flour, yeast, and butter cover, but it is optional. Another very popular sweet are the ‘Golosessi’ skewers, where a small wooden toothpick is tied together with dried figs, nuts, and apricots, previously dipped in caramelized sugar.

Types of Wines

We must remember that Veneto, in addition to gastronomy, is the homeland of the most renowned wines in the world. Thanks to the typology of the territory that passes from the plain to the mountains, they offer many different types of wines, several under the DOC brand. Certainly mention should be made of Amarone Valpolicella, Bardolino Superiore, Prosecci Conegliano Valdobbiane, Recioto di Gambellara, and Soave Superiore.

Among the sparkling wines, we mention the sparkling white Colli Euganei and the Garda chardonnay. We have not left behind Barancino, produced since 1985 from Grappa added with infusions and essential oils from Mugo and Ginepro pinewoods, Consiglio’s liqueur, obtained from the infusion of berries and herbs typical of the forest, diluted with water and sugar; and the egg consumed as a regenerating and warming beverage after the practice of winter sports.

The Veneto airport system consists of Marco Polo from Venice, Valerio Catullo from Verona, and San Giuseppe from Treviso. Marco Polo in Venice is the third airport hub in Italy, with more than 700 weekly flights to the main national and international destinations. Verona airport has daily connections with flights to the main Italian and European cities. Treviso Airport is dedicated to regional, low-cost, and private flights.

It has a wide railway network that links almost the entire national territory with a rich offer of regional, intercity, and high-speed ​​trains. It is also possible to reach Veneto by sea, mainly through Greece, Istria, and Dalmatia, using fast ferry services with a stopover in Venice. The Venice maritime station is, moreover, a frequent stopover for cruise ships transiting the Mediterranean. Numerous tourist ports are present in Veneto.

4) How to get to Veneto? BY CAR

Veneto is well connected with the rest of Italy through a functional motorway network. It is crossed from east to west by the A4 Torino-Trieste motorway. From the north, it is accessible via the A22 Brennero – Modena motorway. From the south, always on A22 Brennero – Modena and mainly on A13 Bologna – Padua.
