How many days do I need to visit Italy?
In fact, it is a very difficult question, because probably even if I had a month available, it would be very difficult to be able to visit all the main tourist places in Italy. That’s right, each region has many cities that are beautiful and worth visiting calmly. Italy is full of monuments, museums, churches, fountains, and landscapes, in short, as you can imagine, there is no shortage of beauty in this country. But, after all, how many days do I need to visit Italy? Stay with us and make the most of boot country! Here at Italy’s Dream Tourism you can make the trip of your dreams come true!! Our introduction
I get a lot of emails with this question, so I decided to make a post to try to provide general guidance on this issue. I have to remember that the distances are not always as short as they seem. Any shift will always make us lose so much time, such as: closing a suitcase, taking a taxi or other transport, or taking another transport such as a train / bus, shifting (or trying not to get lost when traveling with a rental car), arriving in the other city, going to the hotel, opening the suitcase, and finally, as you noticed, we will end up wasting a good time!!!
Anyway, it is a rush, and we will end up wasting at least 3 or 4 hours (at least a few times). For this reason, I always advise against traveling with so many things to get to know Italy because it ends up being even more tiring. But especially when planning the trip, remember to calculate the hours that will be spent traveling from one city to another. Also read our post, What to pack in a trip to Italy?
Advice and Tips
In a short 7- to 10-day trip to Italy, it’s important to let go of the pressure to see everything. Instead, embrace the joy of wandering through the streets, discovering hidden gems, and experiencing the authentic essence of Italy known only to locals. Quality over quantity leads to a richer and more fulfilling travel experience. Finding that hidden restaurant that ends up reserving us big surprises is trying to get to know a little more about the culture and make friends with the locals; in short, LIVE the trip. First time in Italy?
My advice in the case of a first visit to get to know Italy, is to first visit the most classic tourist cities that are famous for so many reasons, precisely for this reason, it is important to know them before dedicating yourself to smaller cities. In the case of having more time or a second trip, dedicate yourself to the other possibilities (which I guarantee will be endless), and I will comment in another post. Always stay tuned on our blog, Italy’s Dream Tourism. Well, let’s get straight to the point, Let’s try to answer the famous question? How many days do I need to visit Italy? I will try to answer in a very synthetic way because I will go into more detail about each city in other posts.
1) How many days do I need to visit Italy? 7 DAYS IN ITALY
Also read our Complete post, What to visit in Italy in 7 days?
And how about a southern city as an option?
- 2 days in Naples
- 2 days in Capri
- 1 day in Pompeii
- 2 days on the Amalfi Coast
2) How many days do I need to visit Italy? 6 DAYS IN ITALY
3) How many days do I need to visit Italy? 5 DAYS IN ITALY
4) How many days do I need to visit Italy? 3 DAYS OR LESS IN ITALY
If you have fewer days at hand, my suggestion is to dedicate yourself entirely to Rome, and maybe to a tour (going back and forth) on the same day to Florence or a tour to Naples and Pompeii (regular or private). If you want suggestions on what to do in Rome, I recommend seeing our posts on what to do in 1 day, 2 days, 3 days in Rome and what to visit around the city.
5) How many days do I need to visit Italy? OTHER OPTIONS
On your second trip, you may add cities in Sicily, Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Liguria and Calabria. Anyway, for you to get to know Italy from North to South, it would be necessary to do at least 3 or 4 trips (as a minimum), so I advise you to divide the trips by regions so that you can enjoy much more! And explore the region you chose.

Conclusion
How many days do I need to visit Italy? To conclude, the ideal time for a first visit would be between 12 and 20 days, so you will be able to get to know various locations and especially, get to know them more calmly. In addition to these classics, adding for example Milan, Verona and any city around Florence, such as Siena, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimigniano, Montalcino, Cinqueterre and many others, or if you prefer to know a little of the South, I advise Naples, Pompeii, Capri , Amalfi Coast, Matera (wonderful and little known by tourists),
