1) How to use public transport in Milan? SUBWAY

2) How to use public transport in Milan? BUS AND TROLLEY

Buses and trolleybuses also work very well in Milan. With more than eighty bus lines and four trolleybuses, these routes cross the city and cover a large part of the Lombard capital. They can be an excellent option for those who are not in such a hurry and want to save money.

ATTENTION TO NIGHT TIMES!

On Fridays and Saturdays, Milan offers service at different times during the night: the night buses run every hour between 2:00 am and 5:00 am. Valtellina-Stelvio;
Milton-Pagano;
Sturzo-As;

The daily schedules for buses and trolleybuses are as follows:

From 5:30 am to 6:00 am to 00:30 am to 1:45 am (depending on the line);

3) How to use public transport in Milan? TRAM

In Milan you also find 18 tram lines. They all run through the city until after midnight, it’s a super charming means of transport and the opening hours are longer, so it’s a great option for those who want to stay on the street until later. The trams are numbered from 1 to 33, and have been running in Milan since 1876 – when they were still pulled by horses.

The most classic and interesting are those of the 1500 series, which feature cars made between 1928 and 1930. The trams work from 4:30 am to 5:00 am to 2:00 am to 2:30 am, and on December 25th and May 1st from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm.

And the ticket: how and where to buy?

There are some very interesting tickets available for tourists and it all depends on how long you stay in the city.

Regular ticket

It is the most used one; can be used for 90 minutes after validation, and offers unique access to public transport. It costs 1.50 euros.

Daily ticket

It lasts for 24 hours from validation, there is no travel limit, and if canceled by 12:30 pm you can use it until the next day at the same time. It is valid for the Mi1, Mi2 and Mi3 zones, and costs 7 euros.

Ticket for 3 days

It offers unlimited travel for 72 hours from its validation, and costs 12 euros.

Good to know…

There is also the baggage ticket! Depending on the size of your luggage (charged for bags between 50 and 90 centimeters) you will have to buy a ticket exclusively for it! Yea! They charge to transport your suitcase on Milan’s public transport, and the price is per suitcase! The price of the baggage ticket is 1.50 euros. ATTENTION

Allowed sizes for baggage carried in public areas are similar to carry-on baggage that can be taken on an airplane:

For bags with dimensions smaller than 50 centimeters, it is not necessary to pay anything;
For those measuring between 50 and 90 centimeters, it is necessary to buy a special ticket; and
For those who are over 90 centimeters, access is prohibited, and you are even subject to a fine if you insist!

Carnet with 10 tickets

If you plan to use public transport more often, do the math to find out if it’s worth buying the carnet with 10 tickets! It costs 13.80 euros, but can only be used by one person.

Quad ticket

It costs 6 euros and can be used in four trips. The great advantage is that this ticket can be validated from 8 pm onwards, and it is possible to use it without travel limits during the rest of the day. On weekends and holidays, this ticket is valid unlimitedly only until 1:00 pm, if validated before that time.

Weekly ticket 2×6

It’s not very tourist-friendly, but if you’re staying in Milan for longer, it might be worth it! It entitles you to two daily trips for 6 days of the same week and costs 8.40 euros.

Night ticket

From 20:00 until the end of the service on the validation day, you are entitled to unlimited travel numbers. Great for the clubbing crowd! It costs 3 euros.
