Our Introduction

The Valley of the Lakes region (Valle dei Laghi) is one of the most beautiful natural regions in Italy. There are nine impressive lakes: Santo, Lamar, Terlago, Santa Massenza, Toblino, Lagolo, Cavedine, Bàgatoi, and Solo. One of the most famous is, without a doubt, Toblino. In addition to being spectacularly beautiful, it is also one of the most romantic and has an impressive castle, where there is a beautiful restaurant. If you like to fish, the ideal is to go to Lamar, Santo, or Terlago.

With an incredible and unique panoramic view, the ideal path is the one that takes you to Lake Cavedine, a little north of Lake Garda. For those who love a good ride, the path of the lakes is 36 km long and covers a good part of the valley, starting in Garda and leading to the Sarca River. The path is not very steep, and the scenery is enchanting! From there, you can reach the shores of all the lakes. Too vague? No problem! 1) Itinerary through the Lakes of Trentino – LAKE TOBLINO

Let’s start our tour of Lake Toblino. This is almost a certain destination for the romantics on duty! It is truly beautiful and immersed in nature, like all the others. Toblino lies approximately fifteen kilometers west of Trento and is surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, pine forests, and trails leading to charming destinations. There, on the shores of the lake, is the Castle of Toblino, built in the 13th century. Legend has it that, 2,000 years ago, this region was inhabited by fairies. It is, indeed, a magical region!

2) Itinerary through the Lakes of Trentino – SANTA MASSENZA LAKE

Right next to Toblino is Lake Santa Massenza. They practically ‘brothers’, and a small canal connects them when crossing the road to Gardesana. There, on the north shore of the lake, stands a hydroelectric power plant carved into the rock, which ranks as one of the largest in the world.

By Lake Santa Massenza, you will also find Lake Bàgatoi and Lake Solo, where there are natural pools of water within walking distance of each other. The nature that surrounds the place is impressive and gives us unparalleled peace.

4) Itinerary through the Lakes of Trentino – LAKE LAMAR, LAKE SANTO AND LAKE TERLAGO

On the south side, we have two other lakes: Lake Lamar and Lake Santo; the distance between them does not reach 50 meters, and it is where many fishermen spend their weekends; there is a wide variety of fish. From here, you can hike to the top of Paganella. From there, a short walk (or cycle) of two kilometers allows visitors to reach the characteristic Lake Terlago, which is also highly popular among sport fishing enthusiasts. Its brownish waters form a reflecting pool that reflects the landscape of nature in an impeccable way, almost like a painting.

5) Itinerary through the Trentino Lakes – LAGOLO LAKE

Then, along the slopes of Mount Bondone, at about nine hundred meters above sea level, we find the charming alpine lake called Lagolo. The lake sits in a wonderful green valley, and its shallow waters are perfect for a swim. It is said that the water here has the power to cure skin diseases. As it is shallow and has ‘little’ water compared to other lakes, in high winter the lake freezes and turns into a small skating rink.

6) Itinerary through the Lakes of Trentino – LAKE CAVEDINE

We finish the tour by heading to Lake Cavedine, which is north of Lake Garda, at the bottom of the Sarca. This lake is very close to Toblino and Santa Massenza, within walking distance of Toblino and Santa Massenza. They connect through a small artificial waterway and can also be accessed by a road full of beauty, which leads towards the Cavedine. The stunningly beautiful landscape surrounding the lake is called ‘Marocche’ and comprises a vast expanse of collapsed boulders from the neighboring Brento and Casale hills. An excellent time to explore the rotating lakes is in the spring, when the flowers begin to add a touch of color amidst the greenery, making the landscape even more unique, charming, and enchanting!

Don’t be in a hurry to do the tour in one day! If you have time at your disposal, take advantage of every minute and make the tour without haste, admiring all this beauty that nature here can offer you; a good suggestion is to do the tour in three days, visiting two or three lakes a day.
