About Orgosolo
The name Orgosolo comes from ‘orgosa’ or ‘orgas’, and means “land rich in water”. Surrounded by nature, the city is perfect for those who want fresh air, abundant forest and incredible panoramas! Orgosolo is located at the foot of the Supramonte, in the Barbagia area and on the border with the province of Ogliastra. The Famous Orgosolo’s Murals
Dionysus, a group of local anarchists, signed the city’s first mural in 1969; after a few years, to honor the Resistance and the Liberation of Italy from Nazi-Fascism, a Siena teacher and his high school students created other murals around the city. This way, the ‘tradition’ began, making artists and local groups colored the city with their art in the form of beautiful murals. The techniques are very simple: the artists use water-based paints, most used to paint interiors, and, therefore, it ends up being very perishable to the actions of the climate, but, according to them, it is the best paint for painting and , therefore, it is normal for them to be ‘touched up’ frequently to keep their colors alive.

1) What to do in a day in Orgosolo? VISIT CASA MUSEO
An unmissable place to visit in the city is, without a doubt, “Sa Dommo e sos Corraine”, called Casa Museo Orgosolo. This museum is actually a four-story house and is furnished with furniture from the 14th and 20th centuries. The house reminds us a lot of the country’s agro-pastoral culture and the tour is made by the owners of the house, Mrs. Maria Corraine and her very kind husband. They guide you through every room and tell you extraordinary stories about the entire region and, of course, Orgosolo.
2) What to do in a day in Orgosolo? VISIT THE CHURCHES
Orgosolo also offers us beautiful churches. Among them we can mention Holy Cross, St Anthony Abbot – from the 14th century – in the center of the city, St Antony of Padua, St Peter Apostle (the patron saint of the city), from where we can see a beautiful 15th century bell tower with its two clocks. There are also the Church of St Nicholas of Myra, the parish church of the Most Holy Savior and, finally, the sanctuary of the Blessed Vergine Assunta, from 1634. All are simple, but in their simplicity, they house true works of art.
3) What to do in a day in Orgosolo? DO A TOUR WITH TRAILS
If you like adventure and want something more ‘extreme’, you can’t miss a 4×4 tour in Supramonte. With delightful trails that offer breathtaking views, it is ideal for those who want to discover a totally different Orgosolo! The tour takes us along little-known roads and, from the top, we can see the entire area where the city is located! If you prefer, you can also go up on foot, no problem! Remember to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, apply sunscreen and hydrate during the journey, ok?

The beaches near Orgosolo

Cala Gonone
From Orgosolo, you can go to some of the most famous and beautiful beaches on the whole island, among them we can mention the famous Cala Gonone, which is about 50 kilometers away.
Cala Goloritze, Cala Mariolu and Cala Sisine
From the small port of Cala Gonone you can explore the region even further and visit other splendid Calas such as Cala Goloritze, Cala Mariolu and Cala Sisine, all reachable only by sea. It is worth remembering that this area is home to some of the most idyllic beaches in all of Sardinia! The transparent water contrasts with the blue sky and the golden sun in a poetic, magical and unique way!
Tip:
- Don’t miss the Grotta del Bue Marino. It is a cave with an 8 km long tunnel inside the mountain. Once there, you can take a walk along the available walkways and be enchanted by the incredible color chart, ranging from emerald green to turquoise blue. It really is awesome! Even for the most demanding tourists.
Baunei Coast and Cala Luna
Near Orgosolo you can also go to the famous Baunei Coast. Even though it’s a little farther, it’s VERY worth it! It is one of the most famous in the world and is about 1h40 by car from Orgosolo. There you will find 40 kilometers of unspoiled beaches and cinematic panoramas! There you will also find the well-known Cala Luna. In the Gulf of Santa Maria Navarrese, Cala Luna is a natural ‘construction’ made up of tall limestone rocks that form a protruding coastline over deep waters; the place is surrounded by caves and gorges that reach the sea, and framed, of course, by the fantastic sea and the incredible white sands. Is it worth the visit? WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT!
