Introduction
It’s not easy to organize an itinerary with what to do in Italy in 10 days! “What to visit? Where to go? How to get around?”. Well, thinking about it, I decided to give you a hand in this process!
If you have read the post “How many days do I need to visit the main tourist spots in Italy”, you already know that it is very complicated to choose what to visit in Italy in 10 days. Why? Because it’s not enough time! The country seems small, the distances seem short, but it’s not like this!
NOTE
- These itineraries are planned considering someone who wants to make the most of their trip. However, if you are traveling with children or an elderly person, I recommend you skip some of the cities or monuments mentioned in this post.
About Italy
Italy is made up of so many important interesting cities that it needs more days to be visited. Not to mention the wonderful villages, so the impression I have is that we will never fail to discover something new in this incredible country! Will you need a transfer? Then click here and get to know the Transfers services of our partners in Your Travel to Italy.
To give you an idea, I live in Italy for almost 20 years. I graduated in tourism, I have worked in this area for many years and I have traveled a lot in Italian territory, but even so I did not get to know everything… YET! 😉 To learn more about me, you can click here!
Our Itinerary of 10 days in Italy
Well, here we go! I’ll be very synthetic and I like to get to the point, so without further ado, let’s see what to do in Italy in 10 days? Enjoy and read also our Special Post “Classic 10-day Itinerary in Italy”.
In 10 days we will be able to visit some great places, obviously the number of spots depends a lot on the type of transport we will use, and for example, if we use the train we will be able to visit the main cities.
To visit the smaller towns or villages, which are usually located between the larger towns, you will need to have a car at your disposal, perhaps rented or, who knows, have a private driver accompanying you throughout the trip. If you need a private driver, ask me! Send me an e-mail by clicking here!
TIP
- Have in mind that this itinerary is very quick and tiring, it is not the ideal choice for elderly and people with children. The perfect option is doing it in 12 or 15 days, spending more time in Rome and Florence.
10 DAY ITINERARY BY TRAIN
I recommend reading this before starting our itinerary by train.
Did you know that Trenitalia is the main Italian company dedicated to the management of rail transport? Find out here “What is the difference between trains in Italy?”. Buy your ticket online in advance and save a lot, read the Post “How to buy a train ticket in Italy?“. Now let’s see our 10 days itinerary by train!
1) What to do in Italy in 10 days? 1st DAY: ROME
Arrival in Rome: The first day is always complicated as we have the jetlag that hits us and not to mention the trip that is always very tiring. Then see what can be done on that day without much commitment, without visiting hours. Because with tickets bought in advance you need to respect the schedules and if the flight delay, you won’t make it!
To make the visits you will have to leave your house with everything planned. Choose in advance the places you would like to visit and buy tickets online before leaving! This way you will save a lot of time in the lines, which can eventually be gigantic and tiring!

Tip
- Make the itinerary in Rome by Metro; many stations are close to the main monuments. Not to mention that it is easier, faster and the cost is amazingly low.
2) What to do in Italy in 10 days? 2nd DAY – ROME
Visits in Rome: The second day is “THE Day”! Have your breakfast, read the itinerary of the day and get ready for the visits. Remember that we still have another day in Rome, you can also distribute the attractions well and you will not get so tired! If you are in the mood: go ahead! See here an example of an itinerary of 2 days in Rome
Tips
- It is always good to buy the city map with the sights, as you may be close to some important monument that you do not need to pay to visit.
Is it your first time in Italy?
So I suggest you to follow a more classic itinerary, including the main cities; if it’s not your first visit and you don’t care about the ‘classic cities’, opt for an alternative route such as, for example, the Lagos region, the villages near the big cities, you can make a route to visit wineries, little-known museums by the general public… There are countless options! Need suggestions or help to organize your dream trip to Italy? Talk to me! I am a travel consultant and it will be a pleasure to help you with this mission!
3) What to do in Italy in 10 days? 3rd DAY – ROME
Visits in Rome (last day!): If you managed to see everything in the first two days (which I find hard to do!) Take the opportunity to relax and rest in one of the Roman Squares: take the chance to observe the Italian lifestyle, admire the landscapes and rest from the marathon that was the first two days! But if you have energy, make the most of it, after all it is not every day that we are in places like this. So take your map and go ahead, strength and overcome the fatigue because it is worth! You are in Rome, bello!
4) What to do in Italy in 10 days?4th DAY – ROME / FLORENCE
Departure to Florence by train: Like you did in Rome, be sure to make your list of places to visit before leaving and also buy train tickets and the tickets for monuments in advance. Try to leave by train in the morning; so you will have more time to see this charming city called Florence!
