Our Itinerary

We will start from the main Italian mountain ranges that are the Italian Alps and the Apennines, and it is also along the peaks of the latter that there are many famous ski resorts, frequented and enjoyed by visitors from all over the world. When it comes to skiing, you can’t help thinking of the smallest region in Italy, but where you have great possibilities to have fun in the snow: Valle d’Aosta (Aosta Valley). We can define the Valle d’Aosta as the “snow region”, with its breathtaking landscapes, the charm of luxury hotels and the adventure of its mountain routes.

Below we have a list that we leave at your disposal to choose the best places to ski, which can be in the Valle d’Aosta, as well as in other regions of Italy as described below.

1) Where to ski in Italy? COURMAYEUR

Speaking of interesting destinations, we cannot forget the Ceiling of Europe, which houses Monte Bianco, with the famous and extraordinary city of Courmayeur. Here sports lovers, in particular cross-country skiing, will be able to find the most beautiful mountain trails in Valle d’Aosta. In Courmayeur, there are about one hundred and fifty kilometers of ski slopes, ready to receive the most passionate fans of the sport, with fabulous landscapes of fairy tales, enriched by the historical tradition and gastronomy of the place.

2) Where to ski in Italy? CERVINIA AND VALLE DI LA THUILE

Among other places to ski in the Valle d’Aosta, we cannot forget the magnificent Cervinia, and the rocky horn of Cervino Hill, which dominates, with its 4,478 meters, one of the largest equipped ski resorts in Europe. Snow is always present here, thanks to the Plateau Rosa glacier, there are tracks for all tastes and abilities, from the Nera Ventina, to the Rothorn roundabouts and the Cielo Alto area. And last but not least, always in the Valle d’Aosta, we can mention the famous and very popular Valle di La Thuile (La Thuile Valley).

Here history, passion and alpine beauty mix to create unique experiences when it comes to skiing and resting. They are truly unique landscapes, like the rest of the architecture, which was carefully designed by Mother Nature, in these majestic places.

3) Where to ski in Italy? SESTRIERE AND CORTINA D´AMPEZZO

Two other ski areas, perfect for winter holidays, are in Sestriere, in Piedmont, and Cortina d’Ampezzo, in Veneto, which have pistes known for the emotion and adrenaline due to the difficulty of the track, and the emotional strength of the natural landscape.

4) Where to ski in Italy? DOLOMITI

Another notable and vast mountain range that offers countless opportunities for sports in summer and winter holidays is Dolomiti, in Trentino Alto Adige. Also in this place, the ability to vary activities is truly inexhaustible, ranging from activities in direct contact with snow and saunas. No less than tasting good Italian cuisine in this charming environment. Find out here where to stay in the Dolomites?

5) Where to ski in Italy? GRAN SASSO

Also the Gran Sasso, in Abruzzo, in the Campo Imperatore sports tourist complex, with its all natural setting, hosts a multitude of creative solutions, to plunge headlong into a wonderful natural environment, which combines well with moments of rest and extreme fun.

6) Where to ski in Italy? ROCCARASO

Another notable place is Roccaraso, which can be considered one of the main ski resorts of the Apennine, with its seventy kilometers of piste. Roccaraso is located at 1,672 meters above sea level, in the heart of Majella, in the province of L’Aquila. Considering the entire area that it belongs to and also includes other towns of Alto Sangro (Pescasseroli, Barrea, Castel di Sangro, Pescocostanzo and Rivisondoli) there are more than 160 km of tracks available to visitors. Here you can go downhill, but also cross-country skiing and snowboarding.

7) Where to ski in Italy? SILA

If we want to go further south, we will find ski slopes, less spectacular, with less services than the previous ones, but which have considerable charming landscapes. Like those in Sila, in Calabria, with its 35 km of piste and two descents, in this case the strength of the services is not at the top, but its landscapes are exciting.

8) Where to ski in Italy? ETNA

Another charming place, but particularly mistreated by volcanic eruptions and unpleasant climatic conditions, which does not allow a homogeneous distribution of snow, is certainly Etna,  in Sicily, with the unusual landscape that converges on the blue of the Ionio Sea, leaving behind the majesty of the volcano in all its 3,340 meters of altitude. Despite the adverse conditions and the presence of plants that do not allow an exponential tourist development, it is still a very popular and popular place, it is clear that the structural deficiencies are compensated by the charming seduction that the territory offers.
