How to buy tickets to the main monuments in Italy?

Today we are going to talk about buying tickets in advance, because I know that there are several doubts relative this matter and, for that reason, today we chose to talk about it. Is it worth it? Do I really need to buy before travelling? Is it more expensive or cheaper than buying once I’m there? Will I have to take the line to enter the attraction even with the ticket purchased online? Well, below we list some questions and answers pertinent to this subject. Are you ready? Do we know how to buy tickets to the main monuments in Italy? Here at Italy’s Dream Tourism you make the trip of your dreams!!! ALSO: see our “Accommodation in Italy – Tips for your holidays!”

Introduction

Is it worth buying tickets before? The answer to that question is a plain and round YES! But there are some advices. At the top of the European summer (between June and August), for example, even with the advance ticket in hand, it is very likely that you will find a long line to enter the place, but you certainly will not have to face two lines: one to buy the ticket and another one to enter, so: yes! Buy the ticket in advance!

Tip

  • On the first Sunday of the month, the monuments are usually free, but precisely because of that the lines are huge and, yet, for some of them you need to make the reservation before via website!

Do I really need to buy in advance?

Not convinced yet, are you? Well, it’s a good idea buy your ticket in advance! Another idea, if you do not want to buy the ticket online, is to buy in advance directly in the monument box office, like two or three days before the visit. It is worth remembering, however, that some attractions only sell tickets online, while others only sell locally; organize your time and find out how the attraction you want to see works.

Is it more expensive or cheaper than buying on the spot?

It is more expensive, but nothing absurd. Generally, online ticket purchase sites charge a commission that can vary from 2 to 5 Euros for the online purchases. In fact it ends up being an investment because when you arrive at the place and walk through the long lines, you will see that it was the best thing you did!

Will I take the line to enter the attraction even with the ticket purchased over the internet?

Perhaps, some places work by appointment, others have a limit of visitors within the attraction and others have a maximum length of staying inside the monument, so the flow of people, even if huge, becomes much faster; So, with the ticket in hand, the waiting time, even if there is one, will be reduced in relation to those who still need to buy the ticket – that’s the trick! 😉
