MOM (Mobility do Marca)

MOM (Mobilità do Marca) costs between 3.90 and 20 euros, calculated according to the distance. The company performs an extra urban service with lines 101, 102, and 103, which pass through the airport, connecting Treviso to Padua, Quinto, Scorzè, Noale, Zero Branco, Badoere, Scandolara, Trebaseleghe, and Piombino Dese.

ATVO

There is another transport service managed by ATVO: the ticket costs around 12 euros and is available daily connecting Treviso Airport to Venice; it takes the passenger to Marco Polo Airport, in addition to connecting to the main summer resorts on the Adriatic Riviera, such as Jesolo, Bibione, Caorle, and Eraclèa. This service takes the route on urban and extra-urban roads.

Barzi Bus Service

You can also opt for another transport company that offers a connection with Venice. Treviso Airport Express Bus costs around 12 euros, and the line is managed by the Barzi Bus Service, which takes you to Venice in 40 minutes.

4) How to get from Treviso airport to Venice? BY CAR

The airport is 40 kilometers from Piazzale Roma in Venice, and the journey takes approximately 40 minutes. The entire region is very well signposted, but if possible, use a GPS to facilitate your arrival in Piazzale Roma. Arriving in Venice, we will have to park the car at Piazzale Roma, which is located 5 minutes from Venezia Santa Lucia Train Station; just cross the bridge and walk to your destination (hotel or tourist attraction) and/or take the vaporetto.

Good to know

Parking at Piazzale Roma costs an average of 30 euros per day; if you want to save money, I advise you to stay or leave your car in Venezia Mestre, a city next to Venice, and from there take a bus that usually passes every 20 minutes and will take you to Piazzale Roma (tickets cost on average 2 euros). Obviously, by doing this, you end up wasting time, so you should assess whether it is worth staying away from the center of Venice.

Treviso can be considered a small Venice, but instead of lagoon channels—properly speaking—channels are formed with river waters. Treviso was founded as a Roman city with the name of Tarvisium (which would be something like ‘bull’), and the real development of the city started around 1000, when it started to ‘receive’ several beautiful buildings and to expand in terms of population and economy. Over the years, it has become one of the most important cities of the Marca Trevigiana, having one of the first Italian universities. La Serenissima

After a period of crisis and various dominations, in 1339 it spontaneously donated itself to the Serenissima Repubblica (“The Most Serene Republic”), becoming part of the Republic of Venice. In the most contemporary times, Treviso is characterized by a somewhat tragic history, since it was the scene of several bombings during the world wars; several areas of the city had to be rebuilt from scratch, as they were decimated. Today, Treviso is a delightful and ideal city to be discovered on foot, even if you have little time there.

Curiosities about Treviso Airport

The city’s official airport is the Treviso-Sant’Angelo Airport (district where it is located), officially called Antonio Canova International Airport. It is just 3 km away from the city center and is very well equipped (we’ll see a little of its structure below).

Aero Club of Treviso

It was born as an improvised runway to meet the needs of the Aero Club of Treviso, which needed a space to train. It obtained the status of a civilian airport around the mid-1930s, but it was only in 1953, at the initiative of the local authorities, who noticed an increase in airflow, that the first civilian terminal to receive passengers was built.

Tessera Airport (Venice)

Sant’Angelo Airport, initially based in Treviso, Italy, gained significance with the authorization of the first international flights to London and Vienna. It served as a key airport until Tessera Airport opened in Venice in 1960. From 1963 to 1994, it operated as a military base for the Italian Air Force’s 2nd Wing. In 1996, it entered a partnership with the Venice Airport System, with Venice acquiring a 45% stake. Treviso then became Venice’s secondary airport, catering to charter flights, airfreight, and low-cost airlines like Ryanair, which initiated Italy-London routes in 1998.

The Treviso Airport Passenger Terminal

Two thousand seven was a fundamental year for Treviso Airport: in February, the new and larger passenger terminal was opened, named after the famous Treviso sculptor Antonio Canova; in July of the same year, the partnership with the Venice airport was strengthened with the increase of SAVE SpA’s shares in Aer Tre S.p.A., which reached 80%. Treviso airport is the 16th airport in Italy in terms of annual passenger numbers, and in 2007, it also reached the historic mark of having received a transit of two million passengers in a single year!

The airport runway

In 2011, the runway was completely rebuilt, resulting in all flights being redirected to Venice Marco Polo Airport. That same year, it received the modern ILS system of the 2nd operational category, making it the first Italian airport to offer pilots a runway with central LED lights.

Despite these renovations, the runway’s dimensions remained unchanged at 2459 x 45 m. However, the water drainage underwent a redesign, effectively eliminating the risk of pollution to the Sile River alongside the runway and minimizing any potential aquaplaning issues for aircraft during arrival, departure, or taxiing.

Since June 30th, 2015, the air traffic control and meteorology services have been under the ownership of the renowned ENAV. Additionally, the radar approach service is handled by the Italian Air Force, confirming the airport’s status as a very safe facility.

Treviso Airport Structure

In terms of structure, which, as we have already mentioned, is excellent, the airport has 60 temporary parking spaces (Park A) and more than 750 surveillance spaces (Parks B, C, D, and E), which are very close to the airport. The airport has two blocks: arrivals, with 2 baggage carts on one side and a lounge with a bar, tourist information, public transport ticket sales, and car rental on the other. In the area connected to the first floor, there are 10 exit doors from the departure area, and it has 9 check-in counters, a newsstand, a bar, and a bank counter, in addition to the airline ticket offices; here are also shops and bars.
