1) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? POSITANO

Positano, known as the pearl of the Amalfi Coast, is one of the main tourist cities on the coast. The cliffs overlooking the sea, the crystalline beaches, are all characteristic elements of this city. There is no shortage of hotels, restaurants and clubs for all tastes and standards and to top it off, the most characteristic place that you must visit is represented by the Saracen towers, built in the Middle Ages, to protect themselves against the attacks of the Saracens. Find out here the Romantic Restaurants on the Amalfi Coast!

2) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? RAVELLO

Ravello, the city of music, which fascinates with its stunning views. It is impossible for lovers of art and literature not to reserve at least 4 or 5 hours to visit one of the main tourist centers on the Amalfi Coast. Ravello attracts many intellectuals because of the cultural atmosphere hidden between the architectural buildings and their beautiful villages.

Attractions in Ravello

I advise you to visit Villa Rufolo with its fantastic view of the bay of Maiori and where concerts are often held during spring and summer. It will be impossible not to be enchanted and not to be lost in the romantic atmosphere of this village! Then visit Villa Cimbrone, located in the most prominent point of Ravello, its magical environment with its fabulous panoramic views make this village a unique place to perform a wedding with the flavor of magic, a place very similar to fairy tales . Did you know that Ravello is known for having the most beautiful terraces on the entire Amalfi Coast?

3) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? AMALFI

Amalfi, rich in history and culture, so much so that it identifies the entire coast with its name! At the time of Italy’s maritime republics it had the merit of being one of the most powerful maritime cities along with Genoa, Pisa and Venice. Do you think it is little? Its cathedral (which mixes the Lombardo and Normando style with the Saracen style of its cloister), the Church of Saint Mary, the Cloister of Paradise, the Fountain of Saint Andrew and the Republic Arsenal represent the best places to admire the testimonies of Roman and barbaric influences in this territory. Before leaving, remember to try a delicious ice cream in front of the big cathedral or have a snack with a squid and prawn fries cone or other local specialties. Take my advice! And I’m sure your taste will “smile” with happiness !!

Now we will get to know other smaller and less important cities in terms of tourism, but no less beautiful and interesting.

4) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? VIETRI SUL MARE

Vietri sul Mare, famous for its beautiful ceramics, the building where they are manufactured is also an example of post-war architecture. Inside it you can also admire the collection of contemporary ceramics, one of the most beautiful in Italy. This village represents the perfect place to find a souvenir worthy of your coastal trip! Read here about the most beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast!

5) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? CETARA

Cetara, a small fishing village, immune to mass tourism, so even today, it retains practically all the charm of a fishing village. For lovers of fish-based dishes, I recommend you try the spaghetti con la colatura d’alici, a dish that drove the ancient Romans to “craziness”!

6) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? MAIORI AND MINORI

Maiori and Minori, it is impossible to speak of the two villages separately, together they have a very interesting historical heritage, be sure to visit the ancient Roman residence: Villa Marittima and the beautiful Basilica of Saint Trofimena. In these two towns you will also find great restaurants and exclusive beaches for you to relax !!

7) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? SCALA

Scala, the oldest of the villages on the Amalfi Coast, has a thousand-year history, at the height of its economic splendor it had 130 churches, but it is still full of monuments of great value today. Among the places of interest, I suggest the Cathedral of Saint Lawrence and the Monastero del Santissimo Redentore (Monastery of the Most Holy Redeemer).

8) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? ATRANI

Atrani, the smallest village in Europe, stands out for its typical white houses with balconies full of flowers that descend along the slopes of the surrounding hills separated by lemon plantations.

9) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? CONCA DEI MARINI

Conca dei Marini, I remember with particular interest the beautiful Emerald Cave, which deserves a separate post. Among the important characters who visited and enjoyed beautiful moments in this location are: Princess Margaret of England, Gianni Agnelli, Jacqueline Kennedy, the Queen of Holland, Carlo Ponti and Moet & Chandon among many others. I imagine you are thinking, if these people visited this location, there must be something really wonderful there, right? Yes it is!! Come visit her to understand!

10) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? FURORE

Furore with its picturesque fjord is also known as “the village that does not exist”, since there is no real village and the houses that we will find there, will be lonely among the rocky peaks, almost as if it were a ghost town!

11) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? PRAIANO

Praiano, where the Doges of Amalfi spent the summer, the true beauty of this territory can be understood with a boat trip, because some of its wonderful beaches, located between the steep rocks are easily accessible only by sea.

12) Visiting the Amalfi Coast? TRAMONTI

Tramonti with its forests and terraces with lemon, olive and vine plantations, offers tourists characteristic and exciting views, in close contact with nature.

How to visit the Amalfi Coast in one day?

There are some places in Italy that can be visited only with transport such as a car or bus. The Amalfi coast is one of those places, so I will give you the two best solutions to ensure that you can enjoy the little time available. The first is definitely more economical than the second and it is by renting a car.

1) How to visit the Amalfi Coast in one day? BY CAR

First of all, make a plan and see if it is worthwhile or not to rent a car. Read our Special Post How much does it cost to travel by car in Italy ? We also talk below about the advantages and disadvantages of car rental, deciding in favor of the rental, just contact a rental company and make the reservation according to the period of your trip.

Advantages

  • Freedom of schedule;
  • Freedom in choosing the script;
  • Discovery of incredible towns;
  • Excellent roads to drive;
  • You can stop whenever you want to take a picture;
  • If you are in 4 or 5 people it will be a great option in relation to the train or the bus;
  • Great for visiting more places on the same day, at your time and pace;
  • It is the best means of transport for people who are used to driving anywhere and have an easy time “locating” themselves.

Disadvantages

  • Important: The road that leads to the Amalfi Coast is NARROW! So it is important that the driver is used to driving in places that require skill, as they are complicated roads for those who do not know the region! ALWAYS keep the speed low and take care to avoid any type of accident, O.K.?
  • Concern about the path;
  • Road speed and directions;
  • Parking can be a big problem;
  • Driving in unfavorable weather conditions (especially in winter); See the post: How to drive with snow?
  • Unexpected expenses with parking and fuel that, unfortunately, cannot be calculated, but this is normal, in my opinion the biggest disadvantage is the lack of knowledge of the territory, which can sometimes result in a waste of time to find the main cities, and make a pleasant journey a nightmare;
  • Generally, those who drive, cannot enjoy the beautiful view around, as they cannot take their eyes off the road;
  • If you drive, do not drink, the Italian laws on this are very strict and you risk getting a really huge fine. So if you intend to taste great Italian wine during lunch stay tuned about it! Don’t risk ruining your vacation !!!
  • It is not a good option for people who are not safe to ask for information, especially if they do not speak Italian, just as with the train or the bus not knowing the territory, you may end up wasting precious time that could be used for tourist visits.

2) How to visit the Amalfi Coast in one day? GROUP TOUR

From Naples and Sorrento there is also the option of group tours to the Amalfi Coast! It is an excellent option if you want to save money and travel in comfort and tranquility. See some examples of Group Tours for the Amalfi Coast without obligation:

3) How to visit the Amalfi Coast in one day? PRIVATE TOUR

The last option is a private tour. The advantage of the private tour is the total freedom to decide your own time, not having to wait to leave and wasting unnecessary time using it to get to know other places. In addition, the tour departs comfortably from your own hotel, which is important when you have little time available to visit a few places.

The Comfort

In addition, of course, the arrival will not be at the train or bus station, but directly at the tourist spot you want to visit. And if you book in advance, you will often be able to have the driver in your own language, so you can easily ask for clarification about the trip.

This type of tour is ideal for VIPs, who want comfort from start to finish, for small groups of friends or for the elderly. This type of service guarantees absolute comfort for those who travel. Basically you just need to enjoy the tour without the stress of attending timetables of trains, subways, buses, without worrying about where the main places to be seen are!

Advantages

  • IDEAL option if you are a couple or with up to seven friends;
  • It is safe, comfortable and you make your own schedules;
  • You will be able to enjoy a “bicchiere di vino” (drink wine) during lunch without having to worry about driving later :), since in Italy the laws are strict against those who drive after drinking (even a small amount of alcohol);
  • Great for visiting more places on the same day, at your time and pace;
  • Not having to “stick” to schedules and itineraries;
  • You will save a lot of time, which you would lose traveling by bus and train.

Disadvantage

  • The value is a little higher, but it is a worthwhile investment! Especially if you like to do everything on your own time.

After choosing the solution that best fits your needs, I advise you to visit Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Remember the saying: “All covet, all lose”? If you want to see everything in a short time, you will not be able to enjoy the places you will be visiting, the looks, the perfumes, those little details, that make the trip unique, because if it were not so we could know the Amalfi Coast even sitting comfortably on our couch watching a tourist documentary or reading a book, right?

Conclusion

Visiting the Amalfi Coast? In my opinion, to visit the Amalfi Coast we would have to have, three to five days or, even more relaxingly, even a whole week, but if you are in Naples or if you are arriving in the port of Naples with a cruise and you only have 6 to 8 hours of time you will need some little advice to optimize the little time at your disposal!
