The Shrine of Padre Pio, in San Giovanni Rotondo, in Italy

Padre Pio (Father Pio), a follower of St. Francis Assisi, has a fascinating history. Padre Pio had already had the desire to serve God since he was 16 years old and he did so. A bit of Padre Pio’s history

In 1910, Padre Pio went to Benevento and finally moved to San Giovanni Rotondo, where he lived until his death in 1968. In his years of service to God, he suffered five stigmata and, it is said, he also had the ability to be in two places at once, in addition to being clairvoyant. In 1956, Padre Pio inaugurated the city’s Hospital, which had approximately 300 beds; it is currently one of the reference hospitals in Italy and has more than 1,000 beds.
