Introduction
Italy has endless beauty to offer, artistic treasures, enchanting landscapes and culinary delights. Anyway, there are so many reasons to be enchanted by the wonders of this country: from the fascinating scenery of the Alps in Northern Italy, passing through the historical and cultural heritage of the entire peninsula until reaching the South. Volcanoes, breathtaking islands and romantic beaches escort the visitor during their trip in Italy. Rome is just the beginning, frontrunner of countless attractions that await you, during your tour through Italy.
Our Itinerary
Well, ready to start our fifteen-day itinerary in Italy? The itinerary will be fifteen days long, our destinations will be the main cities and its surroundings. We will spend an average of two days in each city (with some exceptions), so there will be a total of seven cities, plus the villages and places that are close to the most famous places, in a touristically level. We will travel by train, rented car, sometimes we will also use public transport and, when possible, we will just take a walk! Also read our post How to get around in Italy?
Our tour will start in the city of Venice, where you will arrive by plane!! “Oh, but I’m going to arrive in Italy via Milan airport!”, no problem! Arrive in Milan, take a nice tour of the city’s main tourist attractions, spend a night there and then follow the normal flow of our itinerary. Remember that this itinerary idea that we will present can be modified according to your tastes and preferences, so don’t feel pressured to follow everything to the letter!
To get between Milan and Venice, you can choose to rent a car in Milan and drive happily to Venice on the highways (the distance between the two cities is 265 km) or take a train to Venice and pick up the car from there. Whether by car or by train, the trip takes approximately 3 hours. And don’t forget: Our tour is just an idea, you can do it however you like, adding and removing the cities you want 🙂 Let’s get started! Read also: What to see in Italy in 20 days with a car?
1) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER VENICE!
FIRST DAY: Venice – Arrive at Venice Airport, preferably early in the morning, where we will spend the night! You can take a bus or a taxi to pick up your car (which you have already rented in advance in Brazil), then check in at the hotel, where we will spend the night. Attention!!! Remember to check if parking is included in your hotel reservation. Venice is a city of culture and art, and is one of the most romantic in the world. Its originality is known by everyone, and its location on the lagoon alone makes us understand the grandeur that makes it so beautiful. FIND OUT HOW TO GET TREVISO AIRPORT TO VENICE
Main Attractions in Venice
When you are sailing along the Grand Canal on a Vaporetto, the city’s famous form of transport, you will have the opportunity to pass in front of the magnificent palaces and beautiful churches, and we will also pass under the famous Rialto Bridge. The most popular line for tourists is Line 1, as it slowly runs along the Grand Canal from the Piazzale Roma bus station to Lido Island; it stops at some tourist attractions such as St. Mark’s Square and the Rialto Bridge.
Getting off the vaporetto, we will be in the most popular square in Venice: the typical Piazza San Marco – where we will find attractions such as the famous St. Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, the Bell Tower and the beautiful view of the lagoon. We will start by visiting the Basilica of St. Mark and the Doge’s Palace, so as to avoid the long lines that form at the entrance – especially around lunchtime.
The Basilica of St. Mark has a western-eastern architectural style, the only example of which in all of Europe. The magnificent mosaics and the church floors alone are worth a visit! We will then visit the Doge’s Palace, where we will get an idea of what the Doge’s private quarters and the court of the Ducal Republic were like. Crossing the famous Bridge of Sighs, we will access the prison from which Casanova escaped.
At this point, I think it is mandatory to stop for a snack – and if you want to indulge yourself on a budget, my advice is to eat in one of the historic cafés in Piazza San Marco, which exudes the atmosphere of a city bathed by the sea.
Our tour will continue in the afternoon with a visit to the Clock Tower and the shops selling typical products. These shops, called “merceries”, are located on the three most famous shopping streets in Venice. They take us from Piazza San Marco to the markets on the Rialto Bridge. Here, shopping lovers will find everything they can imagine, at all price points.
After this exciting day, arriving in Venice and visiting so many places, go rest, because we will leave early for beautiful Verona! Read also: What to do in Venice in one day? and How to use the Vaporetto in Venice?
2) What to do in Italy in 15 days? VERONA
SECOND DAY: After a hearty breakfast, we leave Venice to hit the road to Verona, the city that inspired one of the most famous love stories in the world, Romeo and Juliet! The distance between Verona and Venice is 103km, and it will take you about 1h30 to drive. We will spend two nights in Verona.
Main attractions in Verona
Speaking of Romeo and Juliet, one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city is “Juliet’s House”! You will enter through a gate (unfortunately a little worn down by misuse) that will give you access to the courtyard of the house considered to be the Capulet residence. It is in this courtyard that the famous statue of the passionate Juliet will be located, and where tourists playfully perform the good luck ritual for love by placing their hand on the statue’s breast.
But the city’s main tourist attraction is the Verona Arena, a Roman amphitheater that is in excellent condition and hosts grand shows by renowned national and international artists, as well as opera concerts. It really is an incredible place! After visiting these wonderful places, it’s time to go to the hotel and rest, because the next day we’ll take a tour of two cities near Verona. 3) What to do in Italy in 15 days? BACK AND RETURN IN PESCHIERA DEL GARDA AND SIRMIONE
THIRD DAY: After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, it’s time to travel about 43km and visit two beautiful cities in the Lake Garda region! We will only do a day trip from these cities, so at the end of the day we will return to Verona.
Main attractions in Peschiera del Garda
We will go to Peschiera del Garda, a place with Roman origins and where the combination of the mountains and the lake also form a beautiful landscape. A very interesting feature of the city is that it is rich in walls, forts and churches. In addition, the historic center is full of little shops where you can shop, have fun and perhaps please your palate with the delicious dishes typical of this small city. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT LAKE GARDA HERE!
Main attractions in Sirmione
Sirmione is one of the cities that overlook Lake Garda and one of the main tourist attractions is the Castello Scaligero, located right in the city’s historic center and famous for its medieval style. Another beautiful place to visit is the Grottoes of Catullus, which are the remains of an ancient Roman village. It is located right at the tip of the Sirmione peninsula and is surrounded by the waters of Lake Guarda, a truly scenic landscape.
How about enjoying some time by the sea? Or perhaps enjoying the thermal waters with their healthy and relaxing properties? Well, in Sirmione you can admire the beautiful beaches of Lido delle Bionde and Giamaica. And yes, the city has thermal spas that offer beauty and wellness treatments for those who want to enjoy some beautiful moments of relaxation.
After enjoying the beautiful tour of these two cities, return to Verona, sleep and rest, because the next day Florence awaits you!!

4) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER FLORENCE
FOURTH DAY: After a relaxing breakfast, we will leave the city of Verona to continue our journey along the region’s roads until we reach the beautiful Florence – one of the most beloved cities in the world, the pride of Italy and Tuscany, and located approximately 234 km away. We will spend 4 nights in Florence and, as soon as you check in at the hotel and leave the car, start your tour of this wonderful city.
Main attractions in Florence on the first day
We will start our tour from Piazza del Duomo, which is located in a beautiful open area. There you will see the Basilica of Santa Maria della Flor, Giotto’s Bell Tower and the Baptistery of San Giovanni (San Giovanni). The Cathedral of Santa Maria della Flor, or the Duomo of Florence, is one of the city’s best-known tourist attractions and is considered one of the most famous cathedrals in the world.
How about having an incredible panoramic view of Florence? Giotto’s Campanile, designed by the artist, has now become an unmissable destination not only to admire the admirable structure, but also to admire the magnificent view of the city. You can only visit the Dome by booking online. If you are only visiting the Cathedral (Duomo), you do not need a ticket. FIND OUT WHERE TO STAY IN FLORENCE HERE!
5) What to do in Italy in 15 days? GET TO KNOW A LITTLE MORE ABOUT FLORENCE!
FIFTH DAY: After a relaxing breakfast, we will go out for a walk through the streets of Florence again. Take your time and enjoy every detail of this wonderfully charming city.
Main attractions in Florence on the second day
Today is the day to visit the Medici Chapels. Don’t forget to visit the tombs, as they were built by Michelangelo. Next, go to the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, where the same church houses the crucifix painted by Giotto, a wooden crucifix carved by Brunelleschi and the Trinity by Masaccio.
The Palazzo Pitti should also be included on your tour itinerary, as it houses many works of art, museums and masterpieces by Raphael and Titian. How about taking a stroll and marveling at a magnificent garden? The Boboli Gardens, in the Medici family residence, make everyone fall in love with its woods and sculptures. Do you like watching the sunset? Then, head to Piazzale Michelangelo to end the day! There you will have one of the most beautiful views of Florence! If possible, arrive a little early, as the place usually gets crowded at the end of the day, precisely because of the beautiful scene between the setting sun and the city’s beauty! 6) What to do in Italy in 15 days? TAKE A DAY TRIP TO PISA AND LUCCA!
SIXTH DAY: After having spent a lot of time in Florence, why not visit some nearby cities that will add more beauty and joy to your trip? Today will be the day to take a day trip to these two cities that enchant those who visit them, Pisa and Lucca. The distance from Florence to them is approximately 74km, let’s go!
Main attractions in Pisa
I believe that one of the most famous tourist attractions in the world is in Pisa, because it is here that we will find the famous Leaning Tower! Even though it is a small city, Pisa is of great importance to the Tuscany region, because, today, Pisa stands out as an important industrial and university center. In addition to the Leaning Tower, also visit Piazza Duomo, Camposanto and the Lungarni. Oh! An interesting fact is that in the past, Pisa was the birthplace of the great scholar Galileo Galilei! Read also: What to visit in Pisa in one day?
Main attractions in Lucca
When you arrive in Lucca, you will be enchanted as soon as you cross its entrance gate! It is a city with medieval characteristics and is surrounded by walls, which were built in the 16th century. When you enter the city, you can admire its medieval towers and the more than 100 churches that still exist in the city. In addition to the walls, it is worth highlighting two towers that are worth visiting: the Giunigi Tower and the Tower of the Hours.
Walking through the city streets, you will find restaurants named after, for example, Turandot, a name known to opera fans! After all, it was in Lucca that the famous composer Puccini, creator of very famous operas, was born.
After this incredible day, return to Florence, because the next day you will have more day trips! Read also: What to do in Lucca in one day?
7) What to do in Italy in 15 days? TAKE A DAY TRIP TO CINQUE TERRE!
SEVENTH DAY: The day has dawned and after a hearty breakfast, it’s time to drive about 165km and after 2h30 you will reach the stunning Cinque Terre! Manarola, Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare make up this incredible region that will leave you enchanted!
Main attractions in Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre has its entire coastline bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is part of the Mediterranean Sea, and is in the Liguria region. The towns are located on the hillsides and offer spectacular views of the sea. There are even tours that amaze us with all their beauty, such as the La Via dell’Amore route that runs along a promenade that connects Riomaggiore and Manarola and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (along with the Cinque Terre National Park). It is definitely worth enjoying this moment! In addition, forest trails and boat trips complete the visit to the “Five Lands”. After spending the day in this wonderful place, return to Florence and rest! Because the next day we will leave for Montepulciano and during the journey, we will stop in San Gimignano and Siena! Read also: How to get to Cinque Terre from Florence?
8) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DEPARTURE TO MONTEPULCIANO WITH A STOP IN SAN GIMIGNANO AND SIENA!
EIGHTH DAY: After a hearty breakfast, we will leave Florence and continue our journey to Montepulciano, where we will spend two nights. But on the way to Montepulciano, we will stop in San Gimignano (a beautiful historic village in the Chianti hills), which is 54 km from Florence, and in Siena, which is 43 km from San Gimignano. Since the idea is to sleep in Montepulciano, we will pass through these cities quickly, but you will certainly not regret it!! FIND OUT A DRIVING ITINERARY IN TUSCANY HERE!
Main attractions in San Gimignano
As we cross the walls of San Gimignano, we go back to the 13th century and find one of the best examples of medieval urban architecture in Europe – which is why it deserves the title of Historic Heritage given by UNESCO.
Considered the “Medieval Manhattan”, San Gimignano is famous for its houses, medieval towers, high walls and narrow streets. We cannot miss the Piazza della Cisterna and the Cathedral with the Collegiate Church – there you can admire the frescoes by Ghirlandaio and Benozzo Bozzoli. We will also pass by the Palazzo del Podestà and the Church of Sant’Agostino.
We will take a break for lunch in one of the typical restaurants in the village, so we can sample the flavors of the village and as soon as we have lunch we will head to Siena, visit it and then continue towards Montepulciano where we will sleep and visit only the next day. FIND OUT HERE WHERE TO STAY IN SIENA!
Main attractions in Siena
Siena is considered the best preserved medieval city in Italy. With its narrow streets, the magnificent Piazza del Campo and its centuries-old traditions (such as the Palio, which takes place every year and takes over the main blocks of the city). Let’s start by visiting the Church of San Domenico, which houses the relics of Saint Catherine (Patroness of Italy and Europe), as well as Piazza del Campo, where the famous competition takes place.
We’ll walk to the Cathedral, one of Italy’s Gothic Romanesque wonders. At this time, it’s time for lunch in one of the typical restaurants, to savor Siena’s culinary delights. In the afternoon, we’ll continue our stroll through the city’s congested streets until nightfall. Then we’ll have dinner and go to bed. Tomorrow will be a new day! WHAT TO DO IN ONE DAY IN SIENA?
9) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER MONTEPULCIANO AND MONTALCINO!
NINTH DAY: The day dawns in Montepulciano and you can enjoy some very special moments in this incredible city. The scenery reminds us of a true fable, with its medieval style, squares, little shops and one of the best wines in Italy, Nobile Wine, the pride of the population. As it is a small city, I recommend that as soon as you have lunch, you take a day trip to Montalcino, which is 42km away and will also enchant you with its beauty.
Main attractions in Montepulciano
The city has charming squares and monuments! Piazza Grande is the city’s central square and there are places that must be visited, such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Pozzo dei Grifi e dei Leoni and the Palazzo Comunale, which stands out for its incredible similarity to the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. This similarity is justified because it was Cosimo di Medici, one of the members of the noble Florentine family, who requested that this building be built in the city.
How about enjoying a breathtakingly beautiful panoramic view of Montepulciano? Well, you should know that at the Palazzo Comunale, after buying a ticket that costs 5.00 euros, you can climb the tower and be amazed by the beauty of a wide view of the square and the surrounding landscape.
The main street in the city is Il Corso, where tourists come together, strolling through souvenir shops, typical local food, sweets, restaurants and even enjoying several wine cellars in search of the famous Nobile Wine. Read also: Discover Montepulciano and its fantastic wine!
Main attractions in Montalcino
For those who enjoy enjoying good times with a glass of wine, if you haven’t tried it, you’ve certainly heard of the famous Brunello di Montalcino wine, which is produced in the city. But in addition to that, the city also offers charming scenery for you to stroll around and enjoy unforgettable moments. The city, despite being the scene of several wars between Siena and Florence, has changed little from the mid-16th century to the present day, maintaining its medieval characteristics.
The Rocca Fortress, located in the Historic Center and built in 1361, is now home to a wine cellar where you can taste wines and receive detailed information about the region’s wines. Palazzo dei Priori, the Clock Tower and Piazza del Popolo are also places that can and should be visited. Do you like Sacred Art? In Montalcino, in the former convent next to the Church of Saint Augustine, you will find the Museum of Sacred Art, one of the most important in Tuscany!
After spending an incredible day among so many buildings, monuments, works of art, excellent wines and food, return to Montepulciano and rest! Because we will leave for Assisi early in the morning! Read also: Shall we visit Montalcino? The famous city of Brunello!

10) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER ASSISI
TENTH DAY: Departure to Assisi – After breakfast, we will leave Montepulciano early and head to the exciting Assisi, which is 87km away and will take about 1h20 to get there. In Assisi we will have the whole day to explore and we will sleep one night.
Main attractions in Assisi
It is impossible not to think of Saint Francis and Saint Clare when we talk about Assisi, after all, this was the city where they were born! Included in the UNESCO list of Historical Heritage Sites, Assisi is a small town that seems to have stopped a few centuries ago. It exudes a relaxing and sacred atmosphere, thanks to the peace of the Umbrian countryside. Of course, in Assisi we will see the Basilica of Saint Francis, we will also visit the historic center, where we will stop for a snack.
The main square in the city is Piazza del Comune, around it are important buildings such as the City Hall and the Temple of Minerva, a temple that was built in the 1st century BC in honor of the Roman goddess Minerva. This square is about a 15-minute walk from the Basilica of San Francesco. Speaking of the Basilica, it is interesting to know that it is made up of two superimposed churches – the lower one in Romanesque style and the upper one in Gothic style.
The Basilica of San Francesco is the most famous in the city, but there are other churches that should be included in your itinerary, such as the Church of Santo Stefano, the Cathedral of San Ruffino and the Basilica of Santa Clara. After enjoying a beautiful day in this magical city, return to the hotel and relax, because the next day we will leave for Rome, but before that we will make a special stop! Read also: What to do in one day in Assisi?
11) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DEPARTURE TO ROME VIA ORVIETO!
ELEVENTH DAY: After a hearty breakfast, we will leave Assisi and head to the city of Orvieto, 90 km away, for a day trip, as we will depart for Rome at the end of the day. Orvieto is a majestic and charming city, just over 1 km long and 800 m wide. The city tells a story full of artistic and cultural manifestations, from the Etruscan era to the present millennium.
Main attractions in Orvieto
We can say that the entire plateau of the Tufacia hill represents an open-air monumental complex, where it is possible to discover many hidden treasures, in addition to the characteristic atmosphere of the city.
It is worth visiting the Cathedral, which surprises with its colored marble and golden mosaics on the façade. Inside the church there are two chapels: the Corporal Chapel (where the relic of the Miracle of Bolsena is kept) and the Chapel of San Brizio (decorated with frescoes from 1500, the work of Luca Signorelli).
To the right of the cathedral, on Corso Cavour, stands the Gothic-style Palace of the Popes. The Moro Tower overlooks the entire city and offers an extraordinary view. Right at the entrance to the city is the Well of San Patrick, a masterpiece by Antonio da Sangallo (62 meters deep, it is equipped with two flights of double-helix stairs that were superimposed and were used to transport water). After visiting the city of Orvieto, we will head straight to Rome, 122 km away and where we will spend the rest of our trip, that is, the last four days! Read also: Are we going to visit Orvieto in the Umbria Region?
ATTENTION!! Upon arrival in Rome, we will return the car to the airport, as Rome has a Limited Traffic Zone and the chance of getting a fine is very high, so WE DO NOT ADVISE ENTERING ROME BY CAR.
Special Tip!
Near Orvieto, about 20km away, there is the peculiar village of Civita di Bagnoregio, known as the “dying city”, as it received this name due to its slow and cruel fate that condemned it to erosion. Today, very few people live there, very few indeed, 10 people in total.
In addition to this condition, which is already an attraction in itself, the city also has some interesting tourist attractions, such as Piazza San Donato and the Bonaventura Grotto! Are you curious to visit this village? Then read our post, Civita di Bagnoregio, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy!
12) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER ROME (DAY 1 – IMPERIAL ROME)!
TWELFTH DAY: After a relaxing breakfast, we will begin our tour to discover the wonders of the “eternal city”. Rome is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and it is impossible to describe it in a few pages. But that is precisely why we will stay a few more days in this incredible city, precisely to have the opportunity to better enjoy part of its grandeur.
As mentioned, to visit Rome it is not worth having a car, as the chaotic traffic would ruin the trip, so we opted to use the subway and short walks. In any case, we will take long walks, as each street in Rome is a piece of history, art and culture. FIND OUT EVERYTHING ABOUT ROME HERE!
Choosing Attractions in Rome
Whenever we have to decide what to see in Rome, we come across a problem when choosing attractions, as there are so many. After all, four days fly by! And especially when we plan an enjoyable activity like visiting the capital of Italy.
Main attractions in Rome for the first day
In the morning, we will disembark at Circo Massimo Station and from here we will begin our Tour of the famous Imperial Rome, first passing by Circo Massimo and the Bocca della Veritá. After visiting these two attractions, we will continue our Tour of Imperial Rome, now visiting: Palatine Hill, Colosseum, Roman Forum, Campidoglio, Imperial Forum and Altar of the Fatherland (Monument to Victor Emmanuel II of Italy).
Stop for lunch at a good central restaurant…
I remember that Italy is famous for its food (Click here and find out where to eat well in Rome) and if you have time, it is always worth choosing a good restaurant to taste one of the most delicious foods in the world. But since we are short on time, I always suggest a quick snack for lunch. Leave a beautiful relaxing dinner for the evening. Find out here: What to do at night in Rome?
13) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER ROME (DAY 2 – VATICAN AND MUSEUMS)
THIRTEENTH DAY: We will have a nice, relaxed breakfast, because today will be a busy day, so we need a lot of energy.
After recharging our batteries, we will visit the Vatican area, visiting: the Vatican Museum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Castel Sant’Angelo and Trastevere. The Vatican is the headquarters of the Catholic Church and consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome, the capital of Italy. With approximately 44 hectares and a population of just over 800 inhabitants, it is the smallest country in the world.
Morning tour…
In the morning, we will disembark at the Ottaviano Metro Station and walk to the Vatican Museum. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid having to wait in line for miles and miles. Then, we will visit the museum, which has one of the most important art collections in the world, and visit the famous Sistine Chapel and the “Stanze di Raffaello”. The museum’s art gallery offers a small but precious collection of works by Raffaello, Tiaziano and Leonardo. Take at least three or four hours to visit the museum at your leisure.
Continuing our tour in the afternoon…
We will continue our tour to Piazza di San Pietro and the majestic Basilica of St. Peter, a destination for pilgrims from all over the world, it is the largest basilica in the world. The basilica will literally leave you in awe! And we will continue the visit passing by Castel Sant’Angel, an imposing fortress built in 139 AD to be the mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, but which over the centuries was used for other reasons, such as as a refuge for the popes during political uprisings.
Enjoying the night in Trastevere!!!!
Finally on this wonderful day, I recommend having dinner in the famous neighborhood of Trastevere, as it is one of the oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods in Rome. Find out more about Rome’s nightlife in Trastevere! and Discover the 10 best restaurants in Trastevere here!
14) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER ROME (DAY 3 – BAROQUE ROME)!
FOURTEENTH DAY: Today is the day to discover Baroque Rome! We will go to the nearest Metro Station and disembark at Flaminio Station. From here, we will continue visiting Piazza del Popolo, Piazza Spagna, Quirinal Hill, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and the Teatro Marcello. The wealth of incredible architectural buildings will leave you enchanted. The wealth of details such as Bernini’s Fontana dei Quattro Fiume, which is located in Piazza Navona, is incredible. The Brazilian Embassy is also very close by!
15) What to do in Italy in 15 days? DISCOVER ROME (DAY 3 – CHRISTIAN ROME)!
FIFTEENTH DAY: Let’s go on our last day in Rome. First, we’ll visit Christian Rome, with the three main and most important churches in Rome, and then we’ll continue our tour on the oldest road in Rome, Via Appia. I recommend booking an evening flight, so you’ll have the day to enjoy the Italian capital a little more, and then all you have to do is take a transfer or a taxi and go to the airport!
Finally, on this last day, we’ll visit the other monuments considered “most important” in Rome, and we can say that the “glory” of the eternal city really is found in every spot, in every small church, fountain, square or important monument.
Main attractions of Christian Rome
Church of St. John Lateran (get off at San Giovanni Station), which is considered the “mother” of all churches in the world, with the Holy Stairs: used by Jesus to enter the room where he was interrogated by Pontius Pilate before his crucifixion. Next, we will visit the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls (get off at the San Paolo Fuori Muori Station), where the tomb of the Apostle Paul is located.
To end this tour of Christian Rome, we will visit the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore (get off at Termini Station), built between 432 and 440, during the pontificate of Pope Sixtus III, and dedicated to the cult of Mary, Mother of God, whose dogma of Divine Maternity had just been declared by the Council of Ephesus in 431.
Tour of the Via Appia
We will stop for lunch and in the afternoon we will continue to the Via Appia: one of the main roads of ancient Rome and the Tomba di San Callisto: It contains the famous Crypt of the Popes.
And finally, if you have time (and energy) to spare, you can take a quick visit to the Terme di Caracalla, which were built between 212 and 217, during the reign of the Roman emperor, and are a perfect example of the great imperial baths. Read also: Which catacombs are worth visiting in Rome?
Good to know
The Via Appia is miles long, so to visit it you need to rent a bike, as ideally you would have half a day of free time to do this tour at your leisure. However, for those who don’t have time, I recommend booking a private driver to take you as close as possible to the main monuments. Or how about doing this tour with a Group Tour? Click on the following link to find out more: Tour with Civitatis.
How to get to Via Appia by Public Transport?
From the Circo Massimo Metro Station, take bus 118 and get off at Porta Sebastiano (Museo delle Mura). Then, you can do the tour on foot or with a rented bike.
