Where to buy tickets for football matches in Italy?

Italian football is also one of the best in the world! Alright: the fact that Italy was out of the 2018 World Cup is a mere detail. Let’s put it aside so we don’t destroy the magic! (laughs). Fact is, watching a football match in Italy is something very special! Just like Brazilians, Italians LOVE ‘calcio‘ (football in Italian and pronounced ‘caltchio’), and take the whole family to the stadiums. The matches, especially the classic ones are FULL! Now let’s get down to business: where to buy tickets for football matches in Italy? Come with me! Here at  Your Travel to Italy with Ana Patricia  you make the trip of your dreams !!! ALSO: see our  “Accommodation in Italy – Tips for your holidays!”.

Important to Know

  • Before starting to read this post, it is important to know that in 2017 the Italian Government BANISHED the obligation of Tessera Del Tifoso. The objective today is to fill the stadiums even more and, also in 2017, it was defined that there would be tickets for sale at the stadium box office on the day of the match.
  • And what is Tessera del tifoso? It is nothing more than an identification document introduced in 2009-2010 by the Italian Ministry of the Interior to identify football club fans from specific associations.
  • Each club is free to PRIORITIZE the sale of tickets only to associated fans, without the obligation to open sales either online or at the box office for non-members.

1) Where to buy tickets for football matches in Italy? KNOW THE DAYS OF THE MATCHES!

Most matches take place on Saturdays and Sundays, usually at 5 pm, and the Italian league season runs from July to May.

2) Where to buy tickets for football matches in Italy? GET TO KNOW THE STADIUMS

The Stadiums and their Teams are:

  • Stadio Olimpico In Rome: Lazio and Roma share control of the stadium. (Pomegranate)
  • Juventus Stadium: Juventus (record holder in Italian league victories with 33 scudets!) (Turin)
  • Stadio San Siro / Stadio Giuseppe Meazza: Milan and Internazionale di Milano; the stadium has ‘two names’ because Milan fans call it San Siro and Inter fans call it Giuseppe Meazza; but both use it and the stadium has a museum dedicated to both teams. (Milan)
  • Stadio Artemio Franchi: Fiorentina (Florence)
  • Stadio Città Del Tricolore: Sassuolo (Sassuolo, near Modena)
  • Stadio Luigi Ferraris: another stadium ‘split’ between Genoa and Sampdoria (Genoa)

3) Where to buy tickets for football matches in Italy? THROUGH THE INTERNET

Now all you have to do is choose your favorite Italian team, choose your ticket and go have fun! How to buy the ticket? Visit TicketOne Click Here and buy your ticket. The website is excellent, well organized and, despite being in Italian (or English), it is super easy to understand. You should go to the home page under SPORT CALCIO (FOOTBALL). Select dates and cities and go ahead with the search.

Tips

  • Check available dates and times;
  • If the match is in another city, where you are not staying, organize yourself in advance to buy train tickets (round trip) and arrive at the venue at least one hour before the match;
  • Remember to print the voucher and bring your photo ID on match day;
  • Don’t buy your ticket at the last minute: it may not be available or there may only be the ‘worst’ seats left.

Important to Know

  • When choosing the match, inform yourself about the surroundings of the place; check if there is metro and/or buses available for return trips.
  • Find out about prohibited items that are banned for security reasons: cutting and sharp utensils and glass bottles are banned! If in doubt, check the stadium’s official website about which items are allowed and which are not;
  • Take only what you need and wear comfortable clothes;
  • Eat light before the match: give preference to light food and drink plenty of water.
