Wineries to stay in Calabria

Calabria is the “tip of the boot” on the Italian map. It was the region I chose to live in and, I must say, as suspicious as I am, the region is divine! And in Calabria, in addition to several natural beauties, cultural and historical heritage, you will also find fantastic wineries and, in some of them, you can stay and spend delicious days getting to know wines, types of grapes, typical foods and resting with beautiful views. We’re talking about wine resorts, but I’ll explain what that is!

Today I bring you a brief list of wineries to stay in Calabria. Here at Your Travel to Italy with Ana Patriciayou make the trip of your dreams!!! ALSO: see our “Accommodation in Italy – Tips for your holidays!”

Our Introduction

The Italian south is very famous for its beautiful beaches. It’s hard not to talk about the Italian south and not think of Capri, the Amalfi Coast or the Sardinia region, but – what not everyone knows – is that the Italian south also produces excellent wines, like all Italian regions, and some of the most celebrated in the country are made in beautiful Calabria! Click here to learn everything about Calabria, I invite you to visit my special blog about the region where I live in for almost 20 years.

Calabria is one of the least visited regions by tourists, but – culturally and historically – it is one of the most famous in southern Italy. It is in Calabria that you will find some of the most charming wine resorts in Italy, and it is to this magical region that we are heading today to discover wineries to stay in Calabria.

First of all: what is Wine Resort?

Here we go… Wine resorts are usually old wineries that have been transformed into luxury hotels. Several of them still have an operating winery, and often offer us different services in addition to accommodation such as a restaurant, tastings, tours of the vineyards, among other interesting attractions – some of them offer complete packages, others do not.

Good to know

Some hotels include a courtesy tasting, for example, some don’t, so even if you don’t intend to stay at a wine resort but would like to visit, remember to ask for information about a tasting there, as they usually open the winery to the general public.

The same goes for the restaurants in these places: many of them open their doors to the public, however, some require reservations, so if you want to have dinner at a wine resort, check availability BEFORE your trip, okay?! Also read: What are the types of Italian wines?

The Tenuta Contessa is on a privileged hill in the Lattarico area, and I don’t even need to tell you what the view will be from there, right?!

Golden Tips

  • When choosing your accommodation, confirm which services are included in the rate; this is because some hotels already include a tasting in the price of the room, for example, others do not, therefore: confirm all the services included BEFORE.
  • Remember that this type of accommodation does not have seasonality, so even if you travel during the low season: make your reservation in advance!
  • Check with the hotel if they offer a transfer service; if you want to go straight from the airport to the hotel, it’s good to know that some of them offer the service: some paid, others free. If you are interested in hiring a Private Transfer, click here and request a free quote!
  • For hotels that offer a restaurant in their structure, check if there is a need for a reservation, as some restaurants are also open to the public, that is, to non-guests. Ask at reception if reservations are needed for both lunch and dinner.
