Introduction
Serenissima is the kind of city that invites us to want to stay there forever, but if you only have two days, we will give you a suggestion of a practical itinerary so you don’t miss the most interesting things in the city! Let’s go to our post: Two-day itinerary in Venice? Find out more Examples of Tourist Itineraries!
1) Two days itinerary in Venice: FIRST DAY
Let’s go to our First Day. We start our tour in the morning.
St. Mark’s Basilica
Those who arrive in Venice cannot wait to see the imposing St. Mark’s Basilica. The Basilica began to be built in 1071 and was completed in 1617! There is history, isn’t there?! It is, of course, the city’s main symbol and it is in front of Piazza San Marco (St. Mark’s Square), which receives thousands of visitors every year.
The Doge’s Palace
Once there, take the opportunity to go to the Doge’s Palace, a charming building in Gothic style that “changes” color! How so? I can explain: the Palace seems to change color according to the daylight at different times of the day, it is a very interesting effect and the colors vary between very light pink, white and a very light yellow. It’s REALLY interesting and BEAUTIFUL!
Oh, a detail: notice that in the row of columns, two of them are light red. Do you know why? Because it was exactly at that point where the announcements of the condemned trials were made, and, speaking of condemned, the Venetians have a superstition: they do not pass between the huge columns between the Doge’s Palace and the Marciana Library! They say that, as public executions used to happen there, passing by can bring bad luck. Better not to risk it, right?! Make the wide loop, it is better! (LOL).
Bridge of Sighs
There you will also find the Bridge of Sighs; despite the suggestive name that refers to something romantic, the bridge received this name because it was where the condemned prisoners went through to serve their sentences, that is: where they would take their last sigh in freedom!
Campanile
Then, still nearby, you can visit two other very famous attractions: the Campanile, which is the tallest building in Venice, at 98.5 meters high. Venetians say that the angel at the top of the Campanile spins when Venice is about to be taken over by the Acqua Alta phenomenon (period of high tide that invades Venice for a few hours a day at certain times of the year)!
Clock tower
Take the opportunity to see the Clock Tower, which marks, in addition to the hours, month and day, the phases of the moon and the sign of the period; but legend has it that it strikes the wrong times! At the top of the clock, there are two Moors that represent the past and the future; the Moor on the right strikes the bell two minutes in advance, while the one on the left, two minutes late!
Lunch time
Do not forget that walking will make you very hungry and lunchtime is sacred. Be sure to read our Special Post on Where to eat well and save money in Venice. We have great tips for restaurants, bars, gelati (Italian ice cream) shops and taverns. All these options are for a quick snack or even a quiet lunch. Be sure to read the post! 😉 All these monuments in the morning will be located in the same area: St. Mark’s Square.
Now let’s start exploring other areas in the afternoon…
Doge’s Palace
Then pass Riva degli Schiavoni (Schiavoni shore), which is the city’s most famous sidewalk. The path, which “starts” near the Doge’s Palace and goes until Santa Elena. Take the opportunity to sit there while having a coffee and watching the city movement!.
Academy Gallery and Academy Bridge
If you like art and still have time that day, Academy Gallery is unmissable. In fact, there is also the Academy Bridge, one of the main bridges in the city and one of the most popular for taking breathtaking photos! Take the opportunity to see also Basilica Santa Maria della Salute which is another great attraction in Venice!
2) Two days itinerary in Venice: SECOND DAY
Let’s head for the second day of our itinerary in Venice. In the morning we will do the following tour:
Rialto Bridge
Start the tour at the Rialto Bridge, which is one of the most beautiful in Venice. It is located on the main Canal in Venice: the Grand Canal! It is possible to walk along its banks and, using a vaporetto, it is possible to go from beginning to end of the channel navigating!
Camerlenghi Palace
Once in Rialto, be sure to visit the iconic market! The variety of aromas, colors and flavors will drive you crazy! Following the tour, go to Camerlenghi Palace. It stands tall in Rialto and today it is a beautiful museum, with great works of art.
San Giacomo Church
Also visit the beautiful San Giacomo Church. The main attraction here is the beautiful sundial that sits at the top of the tower.

Be sure to read our post on “Where to eat well and save money in Venice?”.
In the afternoon we will go for the following itinerary in Venice:
Jewish Ghetto
After lunch, a beautiful walk through the Jewish Ghetto will delight you! The Jewish Ghetto of Venice was the first in Europe and even nowadays, it is possible to see the Hebrew traditions maintained. Take the opportunity to taste the Jewish sweets that are SPECTACULAR!
San Giorgio Maggiore
Do you still have time in your day? So be sure to visit the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, that can be seen from Piazza San Marco (St Mark’s Square). You can take this tour in about 2 hours very calmly. The highlight from there is the impressive and beautiful St George’s Basilica, the view from the campanile is wonderful!
You can see St. Mark’s Square, the Grand Canal, Giudecca, Punta della Dogana, the sea, the port, the boats that come and go, and also the Borges Garden-Labyrinth. Believe me, it’s wonderful! Once there, be sure to visit also the Teatro Verde (Green Theater), which has an impressive beauty! How to get there? From St Mark’s Square, take the Vaporetto n. 2.
