The first indications that the sunflower fields in Tuscany are ready for the show are visible in the middle of June. It is at that moment that the flowers begin to indicate that they are almost ready to bloom. The fields take on a darker green color and from here until their bright yellow, it does not take long: July is the peak of sunflowers and, if the weather helps, the fields are beautiful until the beginning of September! In this area of ​​Tuscany, the fields of sunflowers are very antique! It is almost a tradition to grow sunflowers here and, therefore, it is an almost sure place for those who are “hunting sunflower fields”! To get here, head to Follonica via SP73bis and the subsequent SR439. The whole way offers us fantastic panoramas, as wheat and pine trees are also cultivated in this area. 2) Where to find sunflower fields in Tuscany? VIA CASSIA TRA MONTALCINO AND SIENA

Via Cassia connects Montalcino and Siena and offers incredible sunflower fields along the road! To strike the most beautiful spot exactly, here goes the “little secret”: head south and stop just after the roundabout in Monteroni d’Arbia. I will not even try to describe what your eyes will see, but I can guarantee you it will be unforgettable!

3) Where to find sunflower fields in Tuscany? CASENTINO

Known for its cultivation of cereals and tobacco, the city is home to several flowering fields along its paths! Nearby, in the cities of Subbiano and Poppi, you will find several fields of sunflowers visible, the most beautiful are just off the main road.

4) Where to find sunflower fields in Tuscany? VALDICHIANA

If, by chance, you are on the “Highway of the Sun” (Autostrada del Sole) coming from Rome, I will give you a suggestion: at the exit of Chiusi / Chianciano Terme and Sinalunga there is a field of sunflowers on the right, and it is right in the middle of the way these cities. Evidently, if you are going down, coming from the north, you will see it on your left, just after the exit for Sinalunga. If you can, of course, make a strategic stop over there! You will come across a beautiful place and, I guarantee you, you will not mind “losing” about 15 minutes there! ; )

One of the most famous areas of Tuscany presents us with its cinematic landscape! Val d’Orcia is composed of a succession of hills designed by nature in an extremely harmonic way. If you visit this area in all seasons, you will see that the landscape changes as if it were magic, offering our eyes a bright green during spring and a golden and bright yellow in summer.

In winter and fall, it mixes earth colors with violet tones and a pink sky at sunset that mesmerizes! Do you know those movie scenes with the round bales of hay? Here you can find them too. Well, according to Greek mythology, Clytie was a nymph who was in love with Helio, the god of the Sun, however, when he fell in love and left her to be with Leucothoe, Clytie began to lose her strength, such her pain. She kept herself alive by hydrating herself with her own tears. Still in love, when dawn came, Clytie looked at the sun, trying to catch up on old times, but at night, without the golden light, she again cried and lowered her head.

As she did not have the strength to move, her feet ended up taking root and her face was transformed into a flower, which only followed the sun, wherever it was, and thus the first sunflower was born. The name of the phenomenon is heliotropism and there are several species; some reach up to 4 meters in height! In addition to the beauty of the flower, the sunflower is widely used to make oils and its seeds have great nutritional power. Its scientific name, Helianthus annuus, means “the flower of the sun” and it is originally from North America. Despite its sad history, popularly, the sunflower means happiness, positive energy, enthusiasm and vitality.
